Ballinglanna Village is about five miles from Clonakilty a town designated West Cork's Heritage Town by Fáilte Ireland and a visit to the town soon shows why. You feel at home here among the attractive traditional shop fronts and hand-painted signs in English and Irish. At Ard na Farraige we have compiled a dossier of places to visit and things to do in and around Clonakilty. Our guests have also recorded their activities and experiences for your guidance. This is a ideal holiday destination and a base from which to tour West Cork a region blessed with some of Ireland's most spectacular scenery. Clonakilty is the Beach Centre of West Cork with the Blue Flag Beaches of Inchydoney, Owenahincha and the Warren close-by and many smaller coves to be explored, some within walking distance of the house. Cobh, Kinsale. Schull, Baltimore, Skibbereen and Bantry, are all within striking distance. The Sheep's Head and Beara Peninsulas and the Ring of Kerry make exciting day trips.

Further details for this holiday house rental in County Cork, Ireland

How to Find Us: From Cork city take the N71 to Clonakilty (via Bandon). In Clonakilty, at the first roundabout you meet, take the first exit on left sign-posted to Ring (supermarket on right).. In Ring village take the first turn right by the water. Continue on to a T-junction. Turn right. At next junction veer left. Continue on that road for 1.5 miles until you reach the holiday village by the sea. Ard na Farraige (No. 18) is at the far end. The caretaker’s house is a pale green cottage at the descent to Ballinglanna. (‘Pump Cottage’). Our caretaker is always on hand to give assistance.

Food and Drink: Restaurants around Clonakilty cater for all tastes and budgets. These range from take-aways to pub-grub to elaborate gourmet fare. Local specialities and seafood are included in their menus. Clonakilty pub-life is unique, providing an extensive range of entertainment, from traditional music, story-telling, set-dancing, cabaret, to blues and jazz

Wildlife, Birdwatching and History : The rock formations below the house and the Sea Pinks in bloom are sights not to be missed. Birdwatching around Clonakilty Bay can be very rewarding. It provides easy access and viewing all around both estuaries and lagoons Sea watching can be done from the house (Ard na Farraige ), from Dunmore and from Virgin Mary's Bank on Inchadoney Island. As you travel to Clonakilty you notice the vast bird population on the estuary and large numbers of Duck and Waders feed and roost here from late Autumn to early Spring. The area is extremely rich in ancient monuments and dwelling places of its early and pre-celtic settlers. Historic Houses and Sites: Timoleague Abbey, Droumbeg Stone Circle, Castle Salem, Coppinger's Court, Michael Collins's Birthplace at Sam's Cross, Ballinacarriga Castle and Castlefreke. Other Places to Visit: The Model Village, The Old Mill Library, Lios na Con Ring Fort, The Animal Farm at Darrara College.

Golf: Within 10 minutes you can be at Lisselan Golf Course (voted one of the top ten golf courses in The British Isles), a 15 minute drive takes you to Dunmore (9 hole) Golf Course or 20 mins to Bandon Golf Course (18 hole). Green Fees at all these courses are very reasonable.

Other Activities: pitch and putt, canoeing and paddle-boating

Review Submitted: December 6, 2007 Date of Stay: December 2007
The best testament to the attractiveness of the house is the fact that our guests return year after year, some even twice in one year. David & Christine Streets: 'Who would believe that this has been our seventh visit to your excellent house? This visit has been one of quiet reflection and rest which is what we wanted to do... Thank you again... We enjoyed ourselves very much indeed. We will be back.' - July 2005. 'Twice within three months of last visit to Ballinglanna must be a record... There must be something in the Irish air that brings us back... Thank you again for the use of your house. Just to laze around and read was enjoyable and the weather has been kind too. Thank you Peggy for being around when required.' - Oct 2005. The Desmond Family: 'Where do we begin? A beautiful house, a great location... well equipped... homely. Things we have seen: dolphins, seals, otters and too many other things to mention. A wonderful holiday, totally relaxing, an incredible part of the world'.
