Interesting information about Ramelton...
The Father of Presbyterianism Francis Mackime was born in Ramelton and worshiped in what is call The Old Meeting House, he founded the American Presbyterian Church. Today, fully restored, the Old Meeting House is the town library. Just how did an Irish emigrant now forgotten in his native land become captain of the first All Blacks side , one of the most revered rugby teams in the world? And how did he revolutionise the way the game is played, popularising the position of wing forward and pioneering the concept of mobile forwards swarming over the pitch to support play? The story of Dave Gallaher, born in Ramelton the man who helped establish rugby as New Zealand's national game and make the All Blacks the world's top side, is a remarkable one. A Little bit further into Northern Ireland and you can visit the Giants Causway - its a bit further but it can be done in a day. Take a trip south to Donegal Town and book in to Harveys Point famous Sunday Carvery. - all you can eat!!
Touring Ideas
1) Do the Fanad Drive leaving from Rathmelton thourgh Rathmullen and on to Fanad. Beautiful Scenery. Stop at the cellar bar for coffee in Rathmullen House and walk the Beach. Great food at the Milford Inn. 2) Go to Glenveagh National Park, Gardens and Castle Tour - well worth a visit (via Kilmacrenan).3) Another drive is via carrigart to Dunfanaghy, Rosapenna and Horn Head area - great scenary.4) You can also travel to Rathmullen again and take the Ferry to the Inishowen Penninsula and drive all around Inishowen.
