Beaches, Water Sports, Fishing:
There are several beaches within easy reach of Red Cliff House including Reenroe beach which is only one mile away. This beach is over a mile long and is great for walking, running, surfing, horse riding, fishing and swimming. Surfing classes are held regularly, weather permitting.
Boats can be hired locally for sea angling.
Walking, Hill Walking, Cycling:
There are many local walks and cycling routes of various levels and abilities, all with great views of the coutry side. Bicyles can be hired locally in Caherciveen.
The Bolus Head walk in Ballinskelligs has fantastic views overlooking St. Finan’s Bay and the Skellig Rocks. Along the way you will visit the Cill Rialaig Famine Village, Cill Rialaig Artist’s Retreat, and the early Christian ruins of Cill Rialaig monastic settlement with Oratory. There are many other walks in the area, details of which are provided in the house and from the local tourist office.
Local Attractions and Eating Out:
There is plenty to see and do locally. A trip to the world famous Skelligs Rock is a must and boats leave during the Summer months from Ballinskelligs and Portmagee. Visit Valentia Island to see the Slate Quarry, Grotto and Light House. Tour the Skellig Ring and the Ring of Kerry. Visit Skellig Chocolate factory in St. Finans Bay (The Glen). Cill Rialaig pre-famine village is located in Ballinskelligs and Cill Rialaig Art Gallery and Cafe is located in Dun Geagan village which is two miles away. You will be spoilt for choice if you wish to go hill walking or cycling and there are many archaeological sites of interest in the area.
There are plenty of places to choose from for eating out from cafes to pub food to gourmet restaurants. Fresh seafood is a speciality.
