Lake Como

Lake Como is one of the most beautiful Italian Lakes. It is situated in a basin surrounded by mountains. The lake offers quite a varied landscape, with colourful scenery and surroundings all year round. The largest town on the north -west coast is Como, with historical monuments, and wonderful shops for that special purchase of Italian fashion with weekly markets where you can find everything from designer shoes and bags to pots and pans. The old Roman road passes through Cernobbio (Villa D'Este), Menaggio (golf course) passes Isola Comacina (the only island in the lake) leads up to Gravedona and then up into Switzerland and Austria. Lake Como, particularly the northern part of the lake, is famous in Europe. Known as a good place to practice sailing sports, it is the windiest but also most natural part of the lake. From March to October, the 'breva' is the typical thermic wind of the lake. There are many famous sailing clubs, windsurf and kit-surf schools .

Gravedona

Gravedona is in northern are of Lake Como, in an area full of history and natural attractions. There are plenty of leisure activities to meet all one's needs. It's the ideal location to bring the family and relax. If offers both water and land sports for all ages, or for anyone who might enjoy to discover the natural beauty of the lake and all the surroundings. Gravedona is situated on the western shore of 'Alto Lario', and is one of the gems of Como Lake. The area has a temperate climate in summer and pleasant temperatures in winter favoured by the warm “tramontana” wind descending from the Alps. Being south of the Alps especially in winter there are many days of cloudless weather, whereas in summer thunderstorms, which last a few hours, refresh the air. For golfers at least 3 golf courses are nearby under which the oldest course in Italy: Menaggio. An excursion by boat, crisscrossing the lake gives you a beautiful view on the private villa's and parks.

Getting There

By car through Switzerland Gotthard tunnel, Lugano, Italian border, Menaggio, Gravedona, or through Switzerland Splugen pass, Chiavenna, Gravedona. The apartments are just 100 Km far from Milano Malpensa / Linate airport , budget flights, e.g. with ( http://www.ryanair.com or easyet ) arrive at Milano or Bergamo airport . All these airports have the main car hire companies, and bus connections to lake Como.

Skiing Information:

Famous winter sport resorts such as St. Moritz (80 km), Madesimo (50 Km) and Bormio are a 90 min. drive away. In two hours visitors can reach the Gotthard mountain region, Splugen, or San Bernardino. Locals tend to take day outings for skiing and hiking, lovely walks in the snow and sledding in the valleys behind Gravedona

Golf Information:

In Menaggio (15 km) there is an 18-hole golf course. Founded in 1907, this is the oldest golf course in Italy. Lanzo golf course in Val D’Intelvi (40 km) has 9 holes and is in the hills at 600 m altitude. There are also courses in Lugano (40 km) and in Como (50 km).
