Sight-seeing and Walking:
Il Molino is perfectly placed for exploring the Marche and neighbouring Umbria. Beautiful towns such as Macerata, Tolentino, Urbino, Ascoli Piceno, Assisi, Gubbio, Spello, Spoleto and Perugia are all within one to two hour's drive away. For those interested in hiking and walking, the magnificent Sybilline Mountains National Park is even closer, where there are unlimited opportunities for hiking, bird-watching and sight-seeing with breathtaking views of mountains, hills and valleys. The walking ranges from easy strolls along forest paths to scrambling up steep rocky slopes - there is a choice for everyone. Longer day trips to Florence or Rome can be made for those keen on art and history.
Historic building:
Il Molino is a listed architectural building of two spacious floors connected by a spiral staircase. Built in the early 1700s out of stone, Il Molino has original terracotta floors and timber beams, and was a working mill until the 1960s. Although totally restored inside in 2000, some of the original mill furnishings have been retained behind glass to give a fascinating insight into how the old equipment operated. There is an outside terrace overlooking the lovely stream and surrounding farmland, a perfect place to enjoy a late afternoon drink after a hard day's sight-seeing or hiking. Downstairs there is a loggia where lunch can be enjoyed on those hot Italian summer days.
The property is in a tranquil location and is easy to find next to a quiet rural road. The back garden, terrace and field are all private and cannot be overlooked.
Local Area:
Only 4.5 kilometres away is the Roman hill-top university town of Camerino where museums, piazzas and cafes can be found. There are local markets in Camerino on Saturday mornings and Castelraimondo on Friday mornings. Basic provisions are five minutes away by car at the local grocery store/bar/osteria where excellent lunches and ice-creams are also available. The Camerino University Sports Centre is nearby which has a gymnasium, an indoor pool for adults, an outdoor pool for small children, tennis courts and a sunbathing area. There are a number of local trattorie and osterie in Camerino and nearby towns and villages serving marchegiano cuisine and wine, a perfect way to finish the day.
Golf:
The nearest golf course is the 18 hole Conero Golf Club about a 75 minute drive away. There is a small course at Umbertide about 2 hours away by car.
