The apartment, with its stupendous view over the Borromean Islands, is set in a villa with beautifully landscaped grounds on the shores of Lake Maggiore : the perfect location for exploring the area and relaxing down at the beach. It has all mod cons : gas/electric hob, combination convection/microwave oven, kettle, toaster, iron, electric fan, satellite TV, video with good selection of films, CD/radio and telephone. The balcony, with its stunning view back to Baveno, is ideal for al fresco wining and dining. Bathroom facilities include a shower stall, handbasin, wc, bidet, and washing machine-cum-drier. Sleeping accommodation consists of a king-sized sofa bed and an armchair that folds out into a single bed. Access to the property is via a security gate with a driveway leading up to a parking area adjacent to the villa. Baveno, where ferries call at half-hourly intervals, has several excellent restaurants, cafe/bars, two supermarkets, a variety of shops and a weekly market

Baveno is a delightful town, ideally located on the shores of Lake Maggiore for visiting the beautiful Borromean Islands, Villa Taranto gardens and other lakeside towns which are all easily reached by the regular ferry service : the best way to explore the area is to buy a 3- or 7-day ferry pass. Not to be missed is Baveno’s Romanesque church with baptistry tower and beautiful frescoed cloister; its Monday morning market; and public gardens with the Villa Fedora where the composer Umberto Giordano once lived. Other attractions include Mt. Mottarone, reached by funicular from Stresa; St. Catherine’s Monastery and the quaint old town of Orta. Excursions further afield to Lake Como, Milan and Zermatt can be booked locally. Another must is the excursion through the Centovalli (literally 100 valleys) going first by train to Domodossola, then by narrow gauge railway through picturesque Alpine scenery to Locarno, and ending with a leisurely 2-hour cruise on a ferry back to Baveno.

Notes: A stock of non-perishable food items is on hand for guests. A private beach with jetty is across the road from the property - beach chairs and towels are provided. The balcony is furnished with a table and four chairs for al fresco wining and dining. BBC World News and other European stations are available on Satellite TV, as is a good selection of films for watching on video. The Borromean Islands, Villa Taranto gardens, Milan, Centovalli and Switzerland are all readily accessible by ferry and/or train from Baveno or Stresa. The villa is also close to the Mt. Mottarone funicular for panoramic views of the Alps. Other activities include walking, mountain-biking (bikes may be hired from the cable station at Stresa), mountaineering and skiing in season. Boats are available for hire at Carciano, and clay tennis courts along the promenade at Pallanza, as is a swimming pool. For music lovers, Baveno holds its festival in June/July and Stresa, in September each year.

Late summer get-away on Lake Maggiore

We wished to stay somewhere warm and restful and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this apartment. It fulfilled all our expectations and the description was accurate. The views over the Lake were extensive and the dawn sunlight filtered directly into the room. The facilities were good and there was a complete compendium of information about the area and what to do, where to eat etc. Having a car is a great benefit although it only took 10 minutes to walk into Baveno. Be prepared to do some walking and climb stairs to access the apartment. The private beach was lovely but there was always some traffic noise from the main lakeside road running past.

Bella Baveno!!!

We have just returned from a glorious week in Baveno (Aug 2009). It is a truly beautiful place with so much to see and do and very friendly locals. The holiday was made all the better by the accommodation we stayed in. The apartment was superb, it was equipped with everything you could possibly need and lots of helpful and information supplied by the owners. It is certainly not your typical sparsely furnished holiday let, staying here is like being a guest in someone's home. If it's the modern clinical look you go for, you won't find it here. This is very much a lived in and loved abode. The views from the apartment will take your breath away. We will certainly return.
Getting to and from the airport - we used Alibus - costs 9 Euros pp each way. The driver dropped us at apartment on arrival and we met the bus outside the town hall (15 min walk) for return journey - excellent service.
We bought a 7 day ferry pass and 'hopped on and off' up and down the lake. Best restaurant Posta. Best place for Panini and beer (or good wine) Maresciallo (on way into Baveno just after Lido Palace) - very much a local's place.
All in all a great place to visit - so what are you waiting for - get booking!!!!
P.S. Re access: long steep driveway and 3 flights of stairs to reach apartment - but believe me the view is worth it!

Peaceful stay with ever changing views of the lake

This was a perfect stay for a week to switch off and relax. Our hosts had thought of everything before our stay, letting us know what to expect, places to visit and even details of the operations of the sofa bed! The studio flat is at the top floor of the apartment block with fantastic views over the Borromean Islands in Lake Maggiore. The light over the lake changed all day so we could have spent our time admiring the view, however there is plenty to do around the vicinity.

The flat came equipped with all we needed for our stay, including a good selection of videos for evening entertainment, some basic food items and plenty of bedding. The flat was clean and tidy when we arrived and there was a folder listing activities we could do. The owners phoned us from England on our second day to ensure everything was in order.

We did not have a car and did not feel hampered for a week's stay. The accommodation is about 1km away from Baveno so an easy walk. There is quite a steep drive from the road if on foot and the flat is up two flights of stairs so may not suit people with disabilities. It is less easy to get to Stresa by foot as the road is quite busy and there are no pavements after the apartment in that direction, however there is a route up the hill and through woods or an hourly bus or frequent boat. There is parking available if you do have a car.

Baveno is quieter than Stresa but still has plenty of facilities with two supermarkets, a weekly market and plenty of places to eat. There are several walking trails along the lake and up into the hills, some even starting from the bottom of the drive; and the islands on the lake are a definite must as is the Centovalli circular trip involving trains and a 3 hour boat trip back from Locarno.

My partner and I stayed here in August 2008, we received plenty of useful information from the lovely owners Wanda and Aurelia beforehand, and on arrival our breath was literally taken away by the stunning views from the apartment. The owners had been so thoughtful to make our stay as comfortable as possible and the apartment was furnished with everything you need and more. The apartment was spotlessly clean, tastefully furnished, & really comfortable.The private beach just opposite was wonderful for those lovely dips into the lake. Beautiful landscpaed gardens, good security, and very friendly neighbours....I highly recommend this accomodation...I did not want to leave....
