Villa Gelsomina is a superb traditional-style villa in a quiet and idyllic setting above Lake Orta, the most enchanting of the Italian Lakes. All apartments have their own outside space with second dining table for al fresco dining and have wonderful views of Lake Orta, with its ever changing hues by day and by night. All apartments beautifully furnished in contemporary style and very well equipped. Large swimming pool (14 x 5 x 1.5m) from May Bank Holiday to third week of September. Outside chess set on giant stone chessboard! Convenient parking right in front of villa. Great base for the entire lakes region. Come to Lake Orta for the beautiful scenery, wonderful local villages, wide choice of very reasonably priced local restaurants and great local walks (we supply descriptions). Stay in Villa Gelsomina for the stunning panoramic views of Lake Orta, the peace and tranquility, quality accommodation and wonderful outside space and pool.

Apartment A. First floor apartment (ground floor from entrance side) with 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, sleeps 2 to 4. Balcony along the entire length of the apartment, with 2 private sun-loungers, second dining table and superb panoramic view of Lake Orta. Living room has large (3.6m) sliding doors opening onto the balcony. Master bedroom has king size double bed, sofa-bed in living room converts to two full size single beds. Master bedroom has french windows onto the balcony. Newly furnished (2005) to a high standard. Beautiful garden with palms, magnolias, azaleas and fragrant climbing jasmine. No stairs to enter or within the apartment (slope in garden down to pool). Stay in Panorama for the outstanding views, quality accommodation, great al frasco dining and wonderful balcony.

Villa Gelsomina is just 3km from the lakeside village of Orta San Giulio, where there are mouth-watering restaurants, cafes, pizzerias, trattorias and gelaterias (particularly good!) catering for all tastes and ages. There is also a great local restaurant in walking distance (400m). Many wonderful day trips can be made in the area, at Lake Orta, Lake Maggiore, and in the mountains. We provide descriptions of a series of favourite local walks, most of which start from your front door! Great beach with all facilities (sunbeds, pedalos, canoes, cafe etc.) at Miami at the south end of the lake, lots of other places to swim. Boat trips on Lake Orta, rowing boats for hire at Orta San Giulio. 1 hour's drive from Milan, just 90 minutes from Turin. Skiing locally on the Mottarone, Val Vigezzo, or Macugnaga.

Getting there: Villa Gelsomina is just 25 miles (40km) from Milan Malpensa airport, for Easyjet, British Airways, British Midland, Alitalia, and many long haul flights. More flights to Milan Linate (60 minutes). Low cost flights with Ryanair and EasyJet to Milan Bergamo and Turin, both just 90 minutes drive from Lake Orta. All the main car hire firms at all these airports. By car from the UK, an easy 2 day drive from Calais over the the Alps, ask for details.

The best view in the world?

A little bit of an exaggeration, but the views from the terrace of Villa Gelsomina are truly stunning.
We have now stayed in the Dolce Vita apartment, which is on the top floor of the villa, three times and are returning for a fourth time in the Spring of 2010. The apartment is lovely - clean, well maintained and equipped with everything you will need. William, the owner, is exceptionally friendly and helpful - the information pack that he provides is excellent.
Lake Orta is beautiful and the little town of Orta San Gulio is charming. There is plenty to do and see in the area and there is a wide choice of restaurants to suit every taste and pocket.
What more recommendation can we give than 4 visits in consecutive years - who knows, we might even go twice in 2010!

Excellent apartment, and fantastic views

We had a wonderful week in Villa Gelsomina. The apartment was perfect and the views are really outstanding, you can admire the view from all rooms of the apartment and it looks slightly different as the day progresses - you could never tire of it!
Nice spacious apartment and really well equipped. Great attention to detail in providing everything we could need down to the detail of a very comfortable bed, couch and sun loungers. Terrace was wonderful and gets sun all day long, we had some lovely lunches out there.
Excellent comprehensive guide to the area was also provided with walks, restaurants, shops etc. We really enjoyed Orta san Giulio for a few hours many days, lovely little town, and the local pizzeria just a few mins drive away was fantastic
Would def recommend and we hope to return.

A memorable holiday

We - a retired couple - had been to Lake Orta before but staying in hotels. But never again, now we have found this wonderful apartment with its fantastic views over the lake and the hills beyond. The apartment is spacious, comfortable and very well equipped.

You don't want things to go wrong on holiday so on the second morning we were a bit put out when the hot water didn't work. A phone call to the owner was answered immediately - and he rang us back on the phone in the apartment (so that there was no cost to us) so he could check up on what was wrong. And amazingly "the boiler man" was with us about 10 minutes later to fit a new thermostat. End of problem! We were most impressed with that sort of service.

Usually we go out nearly every evening on holiday, but here we found ourselves more often staying in so that we could enjoy the view as we had supper on the balcony. But that doesn't mean that there aren't some great places to eat locally, and the information pack gives plenty of suggestions for restaurants as well as places to visit, the best supermarkets etc.

We can certainly recommend Panorama as a great apartment - especially perhaps if there are just two of you so you don't have to use the sofa bed as a bed.

we had a fantastic holiday in Villa Gelsomina. The views from the apartment and terrace were fabulous. The apartment was ideal for our needs and was very clean with everything we needed. The owner provided excellent customer service and the attention to detail was very good. There is a very good restaurant within walking distance and lots of walks to chose from in the welcome pack. The pool was lovely and bigger than i expected. I would definitely recommend this apartment complex to friends.

Perfect Relaxation

The apartment is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday. The accommodation is comfortable and well equipped, with a terrace which is spacious and has the most stunning views down the wooded slopes to the lake and across to the villages and hills on the far side and to Monte Rosa in the distance which is snow capped and glows red at dawn or sunset. There is also a large garden with a swimming pool and barbecue area which guests may use.

Access to the apartment is on the level which made it ideal for my wife who has walking difficulties.

Lots of information of things to do and places to go is provided, but you may well find you don't want to leave the terrace!

Local restaurants are first class, and Orta is the most beautiful town and is also well placed for the cable car to Stresa or the panoramic railway to Locarno and there are lots of walks from the apartment and for many other activities and excursions.

Local support is on hand and the owner is always available by telephone.

Highly recommended.
