Excellent!

Rhett Lubbock, Texas
Review Submitted: November 7, 2007 Date of Stay: October 2007
My wife and I stayed here in early October, 2007. The owner arranged for a private car to pick us up at the airport, and even though our flight was delayed by over an hour, the driver was there and waiting for us. The drive into the city from Leonardo da Vinci was enjoyable and took about 30 minutes.

The apartment is exactly as described. Everything was clean when we arrived, the kitchen was tidy, the beds were made, all just as we would have expected. The shower works fine and towels were provided.

A nice breeze blows into the rooms when the windows are open, and even if the day is too warm, there are air conditioners in both bedrooms that work just fine.

The kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook your own meals, which we did a couple of times. Pots, pans, silverware, plates, glasses, knives, cutting boards, utensils such as colanders and graters, were all provided. There was even a bottle of olive oil, salt, pepper, and balsamic vinegar in the cabinet. The fridge works so you can put perishable items in it.

The only common amenities that the apartment lacked was a telephone line and television programming. I'm not sure if it's a common thing in Rome for apartments to lack telephones, but we could have used one. We didn't have much time for TV, but a BBC channel or some other English news would have been nice. A DVD player is provided for the small TV, but we were there to see Rome and didn't use it.

The neighborhood is fairly quiet (although a bit noisy until after 22:00, if I remember) and very safe. We walked around Rome after dark and never felt unsafe in any way. There is a supermarket about 100 yards down Via Dei Gracchi from which one may buy meats, bread, vegetables, pasta, wine, or anything else, for a very reasonable price (especially compared to the cost of a restaurant!)

There are several restaurants nearby, including pizzerias and a high end ristorante just across the street. Within 2 minutes' walk is Via Ottaviano, which is a fairly large thoroughfare. The Ottaviano subway station is about 3 minutes from the apartment. Across the street is the Penny Lane Pub, which I highly recommend for an evening nightcap. The bartenders there are great!

Overall, the experience was great. The owner is responsive to email correspondence and speaks fluent English. There was nothing missing that he said would be there, and many things were provided that we hadn't even thought to ask about. The neighborhood is in a great location - a 5 minute walk to the Vatican and 3 minutes to a subway station where you can catch a ride to anywhere in Rome.

I definitely recommend it to anyone who is considering a stay in Rome.

We couldn't have been more pleased with this apartment. The price was so reasonable compared to the hotels in Rome and the Prati neighborhood is the best. The owner arranged for our transportation to and from Ciampino and provided us with a map and details of where to go. We will definitely stay here again. Be sure and eat at the local trattorias.

Vatican Area Apartment

PeteH Tunbridge Wells, Kent, UK
Review Submitted: June 29, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
I would call this a value apartment rather than a luxury one, the large access court is rather tired, and the living room could use a proper table. It is fairly close to the Metro and Vatican, and there is a lovely covered market just along the road with an excellent variety of fresh food, bread, groceries etc.
The property was very clean and comfortable, Andrea the owner spoke excellent English and was very friendly, and arranged a taxi to collect us from the airport. He also provided a very useful city map and recommended the 7 day ticket for Metro and buses, which was an excellent move.
We visited the Vatican on a Wednesday, and saw the Pope giving an audience on the steps of St Peters. We visited the Vatican Museum for the Sistine Chapel at noon, and walked straight in, but it is a long walk through the Museum to the Chapel, although worth it when you get there.
I would recommend this apartment.

Disappointing

VERY misleading photographs of this apartment. They don't show how 'down at heel' this place really is, ie: the damaged walls, the lack of handles on the drawers and wardrobes which means you can't use them, the huge, noisy airconditioning units that sit by the window in each bedroom, the filthy floors, the fact that there is only one sofa in the lounge, no top on the coffee table and no light fittings (only dingy lamp light), one set of towels each and no washing machine.

Although we communicated our concerns to the representative the owner of this apartment sent to meet us, nobody got in touch for the rest of the week. Clearly, this demonstrates the owners lack of regard for his guests comfort.

On a more positive note, the apartment is well located for sight-seeing, restaurants, a market, and the metro which made up for it's shortcomings in other areas.
