Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Frascati, Italy

The location is perfect for all seasons. In autumn you can see the locals gathering grapes/olives. Take a walk around the Lake of Albano, collect sweet chestnuts, and roast them on the open fire in the cottage. In winter the local ski resorts are only a little more than an hour away, where you can ski or merely toboggan or maybe even get a sun tan. For those who don't like the summer heat, it's a perfect time to explore.

In springtime activity begins in the vineyards. Garden enthusiasts will be delighted to see the gardens open to the public around Rome about which I am happy to give information. One of the most beautiful is Ninfa, open Apr to Nov, first Sat and Sun of month. Apr to June, third Sun of month, 1 May. After Ninfa enjoy lunch in nearby medieval town of Sermoneta. Pompeii is only 2 and a half hours by car.

Of course in the summer the beaches at the Lake Albano are friendly and safe. Very suitable for small children and a great place for adults to relax on a sun bed, in the shade of the trees at the edge of the lake. There are some delightful private swimming pools which are surprisingly inexpensive and only 15 mins by car. 25 mins away there is a big, fun, open air water park buzzing with life and entertainment. For a day at the sea only a little over an hour by car.

A Great holiday

Penny Parker New Malden, Surrey, UK
Review Submitted: November 6, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We spent two weeks in this lovely cottage. It is very clean and well equipped with it's own small garden as well as the owner's large garden which we were free to use as we wanted. The location is semi rural overlooking the valley with fields and gardens of olive trees.

Although you felt as though you were in the country there are a couple of shops and a bar just a few minutes walk from the cottage and we got our rolls and croissants there every morning. In addition the Le Delizie degli Angeli is a newly opened restaurant close by. We had a really good meal here and we can recommend it.

Liz, the owner, was very friendly and helpful in giving us tips on where to go and what to see. The train to Rome is a half hourly service which runs on time and is cheap and it only takes 25 minutes to Termini station. Tickets can be bought in one of the local shops and for 4 Euros you can use the train and then all buses, trams and metro in Rome for 24 hours.

We were also pleased to have the use of a car as we explored the Castelli Romani region and visited the medieval hill towns including Frascati and Castel Gandolfo. One of the highlights of the holiday was when Liz kindly took us to see olives being pressed.

We would certainly recommend this cottage whether you want a base to explore Rome or a chance to see more of the country outside the big city.

Fully equiped little cottage with everything that you need for a comfortable stay. Really easy to get into the city by train (we had a car to get to the station) but buses were available. The local area is beautiful and interesting. Liz is a wonderful host and a mine of information about how and when best to visit places.

Home from home near Rome

We spent a most enjoyable week in this little cottage outside Rome. It was very convenient for visiting Rome from the nearby station, but was also away from the crowds and with a car it was possible to explore the rest of southern Lazio. Places like Tivoli and Lake Albano made for enjoyable day trips.

We were made very welcome by Liz, our hostess and the facilities in the cottage enabled us to have a comfortable stay.

The cottage is ideal for a couple or for a family, and was good value for money.

great stay near Rome

Review Submitted: September 30, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We stayed with four and had a great stay! It's a great house with a big garden where you can relax from a busy and hectic day in Rome. Liz kindness and tips really gave something extra to our vacation. She made us feel very welcome. Liz's kindness and hospitality is amazing and we really want to thank her for that. The house is really clean and is fully equipped. Bathroom and kitchen are good and the twin bed is great. Prepare yourself for some debating who sleeps on the sleeping coach (sleeps two), since it's slightly less comfortable than the bed, but it's still fine.
Here are some tips:
When you're planning to come without a car, we recommend to have some kind of own transportation to the train station. The bus stop is a 1 min walk, but the buses don't really get on time or don't come at all (they should come twice an hour). And it's really annoying to miss the train, cause it only departs once an hour. (in case when you consider walking: it takes 45 min). The train/bus costs are really cheap: 1euro one way (bus+train together). Everywhere you want to go (Lago di Albano/Tivoli etc.), you have to travel through Termini station. (so it takes up some time). We travelled with public transportation for one week, and it was quite ok.
The local supermarket is great for bread, dry products such as rice/pasta and for oil/butter. We recommend to buy fruits and vegetables elsewhere (small assortment and expensive).

That all said, we really recommend this place for a great vacation!

Greetings Gina, Floor, Anne and Marina
Owner's Response: Regarding the buses, I do say to my guests that if a bus doesn't turn up and I am around, I am quite happy to give you a lift to the station and I certainly give all my guests a lift when they have to take an especially early train, if perhaps they decide to go to Pompei for the day for example, or if they have a suitcase.
