Charming self-catering country cottage 5 minutes walk from the centre of the beautiful medieval market town of Bolsena and 10 minutes walk from Lake Bolsena ideal for families. Immersed in countryside with plenty of romantic walks in leafy tranquillity. Kitchen with large open fireplace, new fridge, oven and washing/drying machine; bathroom with shower, toilet & bidet; 1 double bedroom; 2nd bedroom with raised mezzanine area sleeps 4 or could be large sitting-room; small private open-air patio/dining area accessed from sitting-room. Private garden + table-tennis. Facilities: TV, portable electric heater + stove. Under 2 hours by car from either Rome Fiumicino or Rome Ciampino airports: car-hire recommended. Nearest train station is at Orvieto (20km away). Lake Bolsena offers a vast array of watersports: swimming, waterskiing, jetskiing, pedalos and boat trips and the whole area is a natural paradise with green rolling hills and stunning views across the Lake.

Bolsena was the Etruscan capital and not only has many ancient Etruscan remains, but is also surrounded by outstanding Roman and medieval architecture. A short drive north takes you into Umbria, the green heart of Italy, and through beautiful rolling countryside you arrive at Orvieto with its unique Duomo, perched on a volcanic outcrop. Close by there is also Civita di Bagnoregio the 'Dying City', so-called because of its extraordinary position on top of a crumbling outcrop which can only be reached by a pedestrian bridge which spans a deep gorge providing a view from the top which is unbelievable. Wherever you head near Bolsena you are always going to find authentic Italian cuisine and Bolsena itself has a vast array of restaurants providing dishes prepared with the very best local ingredients. Bolsena is the centre of the local area, and has a thriving market on Tuesday mornings where people flock from the surrounding areas.

Notes: The outside terrace is a patio area ideal for al fresco meals or for relaxing. The property is wheelchair accessible only to bedroom 1, the bathroom and the kitchen. Bedroom 2 would only be accessible by wheelchair from the second front door onto the street as there are stairs from bedroom 1 to bedroom 2. Hair-dryers provided. The kitchen also has: a washing/drying machine, iron and ironing board, outdoors clothes dryer, large fridge with freezer compartment. Just across the road there is table-tennis available in a private courtyard, and a private garden for sunbathing with sun-loungers and table and chairs for alfresco meals.

Siamo stati a Bolsena, in questa casetta l'ultima settimana del luglio 2009, due coppie di amici trentenni. Ci e` piaciuto molto e tutto. Nella casa c'e` tutto se non volete poi cose fantastiche e di lusso. La casetta e` arredata bene e con gusto. Gli elementi dello stile "marittimo" nel salotto fanno pensare a un soggiorno su un panfilo. Molto romantico. Poi c'e` una terrazzina molto carina. La posizione di Bolsena e` ottima per delle brevi spedizioni nelle citta` vicine di Lazio, Umbria e di Toscana. Pero` tornare nella casetta ci faceva sempre un grande piacere.
Owner's Response: Translation of review: "We stayed in the Casetta for the last week in July, 2 couples in our 30's and we liked everything about it. The house has everything you need so long as you're not after luxury. The "marine" theme in the lounge makes you feel like you're on a trip on a yacht, which is very romantic. Then there is also a lovely little garden. The position in Bolsena is perfect for excursions to towns in Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany, but coming back to the Casetta was always a great pleasure for us."
This is a great review to receive as it reflects exactly the charm of the Casetta and its facilities and the reception guests receive there, with its location giving every opportunity of visiting nearby medieval towns such as Siena, Orvieto and Assisi. Grazie!

The highs and lows of my stay in Bolsena

I recently stayed here with my wife and her parents. Bolsena is a wonderful town and I would highly recommend visiting it. I moved out after two nights and stayed in a Hotel in the town due to the following points:

1. The road right next to the house (about 5 meters from your head when you are sleeping) is VERY busy. It is a steep incline which has diesel trucks and vespas powering up it every day from 6am till about 1am. The noise was incredible and constant.

2. If you are sleeping in the lounge mezzanine area, the only to get to the loo is through the other bedroom. This meant that I had to walk through my inlaws bedroom at night, when they sleeping, to get to the loo, uncomfortable to say the least.

Good points.

The local chap who fixed a few issues with the property when we arrived (loo not flushing etc..) was very helpful and prompt with his repairs.
Owner's Response: This review is disappointing as regarding the first point, the road is used by local traffic only: indeed there is a restriction to entry. The cottage has been rented for the last 10 years and this is only the second time the matter has been raised. Regarding the second point, access to the bathroom is clearly stated on the website and has never been an issue.

Traditional Cottage in Bolsena

This cottage is old fashioned and charming. It has everything you need for 4 people, and is cool in the heat of the day. There is no view, unfortunately, but the lake is only a short walk away.

Lazy Bolsena

Great centre for touring (train from Orvieto to Rome and other locations), Bolsena lovely friendly place with lots of good places to eat (try Trattoria, All Antica del Corso reasonable and v. friendly). House easy walk to Bolsena a little harder on way back after meal with wine and grappa! Good as centre for touring and using lake beach, cycling and walking. Better for eating out than self catering; garden across road for sitting in and lazy reading.
Owner's Response: Delighted the holiday was enjoyable and we do hope you will come back and stay with us again. The kitchen is getting a new oven this year, which will make preparing meals easier! Many thanks for these comments.
