Inland, forests, coastal dunes and wetlands make up the majority of the scenery, acting as home to a remarkable number of animal and bird species, especially in the nature parks of Monte Orlando, Monti Aurunci and Gianola Suburban Park. The Circeo State Nature Reserve is a fantastic place to walk, cycle and ride horses in natural surroundings too.

There are some excellent festivals throughout the Latina calendar. The Carosello dei Rioni is celebrated with gusto every June, when patrons dress in 17th century robes and represent the three town districts of Cori. Autumn brings the advent of many food festivals, including the Feast of Cherries in Maenza and the Feast of the Roast Chestnuts.

The infamous city of Rome is never far from the itinerary of those living in self catering Latina properties. With all the monuments, restaurants and galleries to discover, the allure of the Eternal City is hard to ignore. The best time to visit Rome is away from the main tourist months of July and August as the crowds can be pretty large in the height of summer.
