This splendid apartment is in the enviable position being directly on the seafront of Santa Maria di Castellabate and offers stunning views of the coast with its sandy beaches on one side whilst a stretch of azzure sea on the other side takes the eye as far as the Amalfi coast and the island of Capri. The apartment is within walking distance of the village centre with its shops cafes and general amenities. The newly renovated apartment is situated in a grandiose building which originally dates back to the 15th century but in its present form since the 18thc and once the residence of noble gentry, the building is a land mark in Santa Maria built directly on the rocks and seafront it was in later years the gathering point of fishermen who would dock their boats on the lower 'cantinas'. Today the main building retains its original features but has been converted into apartments.

Santa Maria di Castellabate is situated on the unspoilt Cilento coast in a National Parkland reserve 50km south of Salerno and the Amalfi coast. Its location means that it is somewhat off the 'tourist' track allowing it to preserve a natural Italian ambiance and yet is within easy reach of tourist attractions. It is ideally situated for those wishing to enjoy a holiday in a coastal region and also have access to places of historic and cultural interest. The medieval village of Castellabate dominates the hillside above Santa Maria and is a UNESCO heritage site reached in a 10 minute drive whilst the neighbouring fishing village of San Marco can be reached in a short drive or walk along the beach. Day excursions offer the opportunity to visits the unspoilt coastline further south to Palinuro or north towards the Amalfi coast.

| Notes: | Situated on the 1st floor this large apartment consists of 2 bedrooms, 1 small twin and 1 double with balcony with sea view, a modern kitchen with washing machine, bathroom with shower and a spacious living/dining area which gives onto a large balcony ideal for outdoor dining, sunbathing or enjoying memorable sunsets. The entrance to the apartment is via a grandiose stairway which winds its way to the 1st floor beneath arches. The apartment itself is decorated in Mediterranean colours, the cool pastel walls and high ceilings further enhancing the feeling of space whilst colourful hand painted antique majolica flooring in the living area is typical of the Cilento area adding warmth and dimension. The living/dining area is tastefully decorated and contains a wooden table with sideboard cup-boards, sofa which converts to a sofabed, 2 armchairs and satellite TV. Local Information
The village of Santa Maria di Castellabate is situated on the beautiful and unspoilt Cilento Coastline which in turn lies in the Parco Nazionale del Cilento a natural parkland reserve which stretches along the coast and inland to the hill of Vallo di Diano. Offering a wonderful combination of wide sandy bays, rocky coves, verdant hillside and natural flora and fauna. The many sandy beaches in and around Santa Maria di Castellabate were recently awarded the 'bandiera blu' for their clean seas. The village of Santa Maria runs parallel to the coast and offers a variety of shops, bars and gelaterias, whilst the area boasts a wide selection of good restaurants offering genuine local cuisine.

The position of the apartment means that it is not necessary to have a car since the central piazza and pedestrian village are just on short stroll away whilst the sea is on your doorstep. The neighbouring village of San Marco with its picturesque port can be reached in a short bus/car drive or by walking along the beach from Santa Maria. The medieval village of Castellabate now under the patronage of the UNESCO can also be reached in a short bus/car drive and offers stunning views of the coast whilst one can explore its hidden alleyways and marvel at its historic architecture. It is still an inhabited medieval village which has conserved many of its original features and boasts such personalities of Napoleon Bonaparte and Leon Cavallo as past guests. There are numerous restaurants in the area serving traditional dishes with home-grown produce and local wine.
Excursion Possibilities
The area offers a variety of choice for excursions to the better known tourist attractions- the historic sites of Pompeii and Paestum, the dramatic cliff-like Amalfi coast with the picturesque towns of Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Sorrento and the Island of Capri. The caves of Pertosa and Castelcivita and Palinuro also offer a fascinating outing, not to mention the local area where stone farmhouses hidden amongst the olive groves and entire villages stand as relics to times gone by.

I just wanted to say thank you, we had a lovely stay in your apartment which we thought was absolutely marvellous. It was ideal for my mum and the children because she could stay in while we went down to the beach and she could shout down if she needed us.
