A beautiful part of Sicily with fine beaches, Sciacca is famous for its thermal baths. Renowned also for its fine pottery and beautifully crafted Coral. Within easy reach of the archaeological area of Selinute and the Temple Valley in Agrigento. The Arabic towns of Caltabellotta, Marsala and Erice are also just a short drive away.
Sciacca itself is not just about its thermal baths. Its Norman areas of Duomo, the Steripinto Palace and the Church of Saint Margherita are well worth visiting.
On the last Thursday before Lent Sciacca holds its famous Carnival that is believed to date back to 1616. Celebrations commence with the symbolic delivery of the keys of the town to Peppe Nappa, a mask-symbol of the Carnival and its King. The height of event is the float parade that starts on Saturday and continues until Tuesday. The Parade lasts an entire night and culminates in the recital of satirical play staged in Piazza Scandaliato. It all ends on the night of Shrove Tuesday.
