The town of Ciminna has much to offer the discerning traveller who likes to try something different and is within easy reach of the coastal resorts of Trabia, Cefalu, Agrigento and Trapani. Eat out at any of the numerous restaurants, pizzerias and cafes in the town, or sit and relax outside one of the local bars and enjoy Sicilian life first hand. You will find that the town is busy in the morning until about noon when, in summer it gets too hot to rush around shopping or working so, most locals start making their way home to have lunch. The Sicilians like to take their time over eating and enjoy the quality of local produce at every meal. Lunch will usually consist of some anti pasti (local cured meats, cheese and olives) followed by pasta with a light sauce washed down with a glass or two of local wine. If you feel like a drink during the afternoon, you will find most local bars open all day until the last customer leaves, Do try the local espresso coffee it's really very good!!

Further details for this holiday villa rental in Ciminna, Italy

Getting there: Nearest International Airport is Palermo; Ryanair & Easyjet both fly from Stanstead to Palermo, Ryanair also fly from Birmingham to Tapani A hire car is essential for you to enjoy the delights of Sicily; these can be economically rented via the Internet and collected on arrival at the airport . From Palermo, Ciminna is about one hours drive, from Trapani about 1hour 45 min, alternatively, you can arrive by air into Catania or by ferry into Messina, where the travelling times are about four and two hours respectively. We ask that our guests telephone our local representative on arrival in Sicily so that they can arrange a time to meet him in the centre of Ciminna, from where he will guide them up to Casa Uliva. Full route directions will be provided on receipt of the final balance for your holiday and our Booking Form asks for your planned arrival point so that we can tailor the directions to your specific requirements.

The local area: A home from home in a wonderfully unspoilt area of Sicily and yet within easy reach of all the traditional requirements of a Mediterranean Holiday. It is so easy to relax and enjoy the steady pace of life in this rural community. A community that will take you to it's heart; whether enjoying a coffee outside one of the many bars, or a pizza in one of several pizzeria, or just mingling with the locals at the regular fortnightly markets. Ciminna is a wonderfully friendly place that is full of surprises and worthy of closer investigation. We know that you will never lack for wonderful food and drink in Ciminna and yet you are still within easy travelling distance of Trabia, Bagheria or Palermo for speciality restaurants. There many historic sites a short distance from the villa, one being Himera, which is about 30Km away, and is famous for the ruins of the Temple of Victory. Caccamo, is also worth a trip as it has a very fine 12th Century Norman castle.

The island of Sicily: Sicily is an island of magnificent contrasts - sandy beaches, undulating agricultural plains, mountain ranges (including Europe's largest active volcano, Mt. Etna) and fertile valleys in a natural unspoilt environment. Nearly every civilisation over the last 4000 years has visited, and settled on Sicily, resulting in the most amazing blend of European and African architectural styles for us to wonder at. However, the most remarkable sites of all are the multitude of Greaco-Roman ruins that are to be found all over the island; from the magnificent amphitheatre at Taormina, to the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento. It is remarkable that these sites eclipse even those in Greece for their completeness. Truly, there is something on Sicily for everyone and we are sure that no one can possibly leave this amazing island without taking with them some particular and special memory of their holiday in Sicily, which will make them want to return time and again.

Casa Peppe, Cinimma Holiday July 2009

Review Submitted: July 28, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
From the minute we inquired about this villa to the time we left we had 5 star service. Communication was excellent, the extras we tentatively asked for were met with superb responses and immediate action. Paul and Guiseppe were amazing hosts and could not have been more helpful. When you read the description of the friendly people of Ciminna it does not prepare you for the fabulous welcome you get. This community is simply wonderful. They embrace you like you are long lost friends but are not intrusive. The villa is outstanding and the pictures do not do it justice. The design and build quality is perfect. The panoramic (and they are panoramic) are mind blowing. The birds that took a dip in the pool late afternoon two foot away from you were extraordinary. The experience leaves you both relaxed and inspired. The tourist attractions on the island were plentiful but seemed unimportant as the villa and the town were difficult to leave. The weather was fantastic. You might read about problems with the wind in some review websites but it was a pleasant relief. Mount Etna is about 4 hours drive to the top, Palermo is 40 minutes away, Agrigento is 1 hour drive. You definitely need a car to get around this area and it is quite scary driving in any part of Siciliy need to watch both wing mirrors closely as dare devil overtaking is rife, but we enjoyed the challenge. We would love to return and stay longer next year. Thanks very much to Casa Peppe and Ciminna for the best holiday we have had in years. Dont believe it can be beaten.

Owner's Response: We have always know about the friendly people in the town but, it's really great to have it confirmed by our guests. This is not a "one off" we always look after our guests in this way and try to make their whole experience of Sicilian holidays as hassle free as possible. Thanks for a great review, look forward to seeing you all again soon

Villa Thalia-stunning views, great accomodation..

Review Submitted: August 15, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
Our first visit to Sicily has been a wonderful success! Lovely accomodation, just as described, breathtaking views with peace and quiet. Villa Thalia facilities were of high standard and extremely clean and well-kept. The owners met us and gave an excellent introduction to the village and some of the shop owners. They could not do enough and were always on hand to give advice if needed. The Villagers of Ciminna were very welcoming and keen to help...a few speak english. There are plenty of local restaurants and local produce is second to none. The villa is well situated close to the sea and major tourist places such as Cefalu and Palermo.
Within a few days we felt very at home and were sorry to leave. I have no hesitation in recommending Villa Thalia and would be pleased to return.
Owner's Response: Glad you enjoyed your stay at our villa, hope to see you all again soon

Our Stay at Villa Thalia

Review Submitted: August 7, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage children. We spent 2 wonderful weeks at Villa Thalia, the house simply has everything and the swimming pool was excellent. There are many things that we enjoyed but in particular the privacy of the location, the spectacular views, and the charm of Ciminna. Our hosts Debbie and Adrian could not have been more helpful including being on hand to welcome us at 2 am in the morning and introducing us to the key proprietors of baker and butcher. The house was helpfully equipped with Sicilian guide books and a selection of other books and DVDs of which the kids made good use. We enjoyed the recommendations for restaurants, especially the Fish restaurant in Trabia. (in a setting to die for right at the water edge). Another favourite was the cake shop in Bolognetta and " La Torta di Limone e Lampone" was fought over. We used the house as a base to explore the entire island and travelled as far as Taormina in the east (about 4 hours) and Agrigento in the south (about 1.5 hours). There is a great beach at Cefalu , which is a lovely town to visit as well.
We were sorry to leave, but could not recommend the villa highly enough.
