Further details for this holiday villa rental in Modica, Italy

General Description: The Villa is located on a strategic point: this part of Sicily has an abundance of art, archaeology, history, breathtaking scenery and of course wonderful food to offer. You will certainly be inspired by the brilliance and beauty of the town, by the stunning, secluded beaches, tranquil vineyards, ancient olive groves. And you can also explore Mount Etna, the greatest vulcano of Europe, Catania, a splendid city lying between Etna and the Ionian Sea, Syracuse, with its temples, its Greek Theatre and Roman Amphitheatre, and its Ear of Dionysius, Ragusa, with its traces of human settlements dating from as early as the 3rd millenium BC.Or, if you prefer something really breathtaking, why not go to Agrigento and see the Valley of the Temples?Anyway, the list of wonders that are waiting for you is too long to be written here. But Villa Modica is a perfect choice even if you just decide to indulge your senses spending lazy afternoons and suntanning..

Inside the Villa: Inside, Villa Modica, is modern and comfortable. It comes with a fireplace, satellite television , screens on windows and three air conditioned bedrooms. Maid service or a cook for an originall sicilian meal can be arranged at the time of booking.

Outside the Villa: From outside, the views are breathtaking, you may hear the peal of Modica's bells from a mile away and the closer tinkling of cowbells. Already old when the Greeks found it, Modica is a vibrant city of 50,000 that's filled with mysterious feasts, great restaurants, and ancient wonders. In the summer, the beach town of Marina di Modica, 20 mins away is abuzz with nightlife. Also within 20 mins are the catacombs of Cava d'Ispica and Baroque city of Noto. Also today Modica offers this intense taste of Baroque with its splendid views, its treasures of art, its churches, its palaces, its decorated portals risen on the ruins caused by the great earthquake of 1696 which destroyed a large part of Sicily, particularly Modica. We have especially planned for small children and babies, particularly with regard safety. The pool has access from three points in the garden. All access points have gates to keep young children outside of the pool area. The pool is open all year long.

Other Activities: The pool has access from three points in the garden. All access points have gates to keep young children outside of the pool area.

Best value, and comfort. We highly recommend it. June, 2003

The villa was fantastic. We will definitely book again because the quality of the villa, the excellent cook and your helpfull staff made all the difference. July,2004

The hosts are amazing. They have a very well stocked house and they think of everything that you need. Spectacular view and beauty of the property in terms of the pool and gardens. Everything is very well maintained. This part of Sicily has stunning drammatic hills. Modica is a lovely friendly town, Rosa Modica is delightful, she recived us with warmth and grace, we loved meeting her, May 2004. We had a wonderful time, enjoyed the villa, Modica and all the people who were so friendly.  We especially want to thank Rosa, Angelo, for all the help and kindness they showed us.  Rosa is a gem; so helpful and treated us like family.  It was great for me to be among the Sicilian people and I know my friends were overwelmed by the friendliness. The perfect place for a relaxing family holiday

Capucine Cricklade, UK
Review Submitted: November 5, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We'd been looking forward to coming to Sicily for family reasons for a long time. And our choice of base at Villa Modica did not disappoint in any respect!

The villa itself exceeded our expectations which were already pretty high. There was plenty of space for all 7 of us, and the gardens look beautiful in autumn, with pomegranates, lemons and persimmons aplenty. Everything we needed was there, down to an iPod speaker and Sky TV so we could catch up with BBC World. Georgio and family have really thought of everything. The beds were comfy and the 2 bathrooms (+ 3 loos) meant no queues in the morning. The pool was a very nice feature, a bit too cool for me but the kids loved it. It was lovely to sit there and relax in the sun.

From the moment we called Georgio from Catania airport he looked after us superbly. We had no trouble finding the villa with his help, and he gave us loads of great information about beaches, restaurants, pizza delivery, and even took us out to a local restaurant to sample fantastic local food. It was lovely to meet his wife and baby son too.

You really need to hire a car to get the best out of the location. It was only a few mins drive down the hill to the excellent local food shops and we made some fab meals with fish from the fishmonger. The local bread is lovely but don't go for the duro unless you like really, crunchy chewy bread! The local veg and fruit is all excellent too, with local farmers selling from their trucks at the side of the road. Sicilian wine is also excellent so no worries in going for the house bottle.

The restaurants we really liked were recommended by Georgio - Osteria dei Sapori Perduti on Corso Umberto in Modica, and Maria Fidone in Frigintini. Trips out to Noto, Syracusa, Vendicari nature reserve, Ragusa and Etna were all fabulous and within relatively easy reach. Parking and driving is a bit stressful if you're used to polite British ways but just be very assertive!

We're already talking about when we'll be able to return to see all the things we missed this time around.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Villa Modica to everyone - just go and sample the amazing hospitality in Sicily!

A Gem of a holiday villa...

Review Submitted: September 16, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We enjoyed a wonderful 2 weeks in Villa Modica in July. It was perfect for our family group of 3 grandparents, 2 adult children and 3 young grandchildren. Giorgio (who speaks fluent English) is a great host who provides an outstanding service, ensuring that his guests are very well looked after and everything is perfectly in order.
The description of the property, facilities and location were totally accurate. Giorgio and his helpers clean and maintain the villa and grounds to a very high standard, with Giorgio visiting at least every other day to clean the pool and attend to any necessary maintenance. He takes pride in providing a quality service which far exceeded our expectations, even to the extent of taking our hire car to repair a puncture late on the Saturday evening we arrived!!
The instructions to get to Modica from Catania were very clear and Giorgio meets new arrivals at an easy to find location near the town centre. En route to the villa he pointed out local facilities such as take-away pizzeria, baker, butcher, fishmonger and the nearest (small but adequate) supermarket.
The delicious prepared meal and most welcome bottle of wine on arrival provided the ideal start to our holiday. The cleaning team ensured our holiday villa was spotless and presented perfectly with a good supply of basic provisions.
Throughout our stay Giorgio was attentive, obliging and helpfull but never intrusive.
Security at the villa is excellent with a double gated entrance opened with 2 seperate electronic keys. Giorgio repsonded very promptly on the day there was a problem with the outer gate.
We loved the beautiful pool and garden, safe for young children, with ample shaded areas and a large gazebo, ideal for al fresco lunches.
The villa's location is rural and peacefull but not secluded. The centre of Modica is just over 5 minutes drive away, but too hazardous to walk safely. Sicilan drivers have their own rules, they do not expect to encounter walkers except in town centres!!
Modica is a friendly and busy town by day, a hive of bustling activity from mid evening onwards. There were few foreign (non Italian) tourists but most restaurants, shops and bars understood English. Many traders were disappointed that we tried to practice our rusty Italian!! Best (very good) value can be found in the pizzerias and trattorias, where the locals eat. Ice creams are a must!!
The coast was a 45 minute drive, the better beaches being to the east of Marina di Modica.

Villa Modica May 2009

Review Submitted: June 3, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Absolutely fantastic villa, Georgio the owner could not be more welcoming and accommodating. To arrive and have a beautiful meal (fresh ingredients from his farm) cooked for you was wonderful to say the least. Also the essential foods were in the cupboards waiting for you, so you did not have to worry about food shopping for a few days. The villa has everything that you needed and more, it was absolutely spotless and Georgio came and cleaned the pool every morning! The position was just on the outskirts of Modica and you could sit in the sun room and eat breakfast whilst looking down the valley to Modica. It was very peaceful and a perfect place to get away from our busy lives. Georgio had been very thoughtful with respect to children and the pool area could be gated off, so you could let children explore without fear of them getting to the pool. The gardens were beautifully kept and there were different areas where you could be in the shade and eat. It would be great for groups, families and children, romantic stays. We are definitely going to return and would highly recommend it to anyone. May 2009

First class accomodation

Review Submitted: June 3, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
We have rented lots of properties in many parts of the world but this is without doubt the best equipped. You need a car but the villa is set back from a quiet road with a fantastic view across the valley. We were there in January so can't speak about the pool except to say that it would be lovely sitting around it and taking a cooling swim if the sun was shining. The owner was so helpful and just couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable. Thoroughly recommend Villa Modica
