La Cantina is 500 metres above sea level, off the main Arezzo to Monterchi road, in the hills overlooking the Valtiberina. The farmhouse, with easy access from this main road, is of stone with terracotta, typical of old Tuscan farm buildings. Beside its veranda is the 12 metre swimming pool, built into a stone paved terrace on the lower level, with an arched enclosure providing summer shade. A fence encloses the house and pool with gates providing access to the property's private woods and fields with fruit and olive trees. There is one neighbour 100m up the road, other more distant properties add interest to the panorama! The area is known for wild mushrooms such as porcini and truffles, and abounds with wild flowers including orchids, fauna and birds. Inside, the wooden fireplace and high beamed ceiling of the sitting room preserve the period setting, with the convenience of a separate modern kitchen and modern bathrooms. Location: Monterchi in Italy

Nearest Train: Arezzo at 22 Kilometres
Nearest Motorway: Sansepolcro at 12 Kilometres
Car: necessary
Florence, Siena, Cortona, Perugia, Assisi, La Verna are all within 90 minutes easy drive from La Cantina. Arezzo and the mediaeval towns of Anghiari, Sansepolcro, Citta di Castello are within 30 minutes drive, with traditional shops and restaurants. The nearest village, Le Ville has a grocer, and an excellent butcher and greengrocer. Arezzo is on the main Rome/Florence/Milan railway line. The airports at Perugia, Bolognia, Forli, Pisa, Florence and Rome are all within one to 3 hours drive from La Cantina. Perugia is the nearest, Pisa and Rome the farthest. Although Forli is also near, it is not currently recommended because of the present condition of the E45 road .

Additional information about rental rates

  • Payment will be accepted in a sterling cheque, or euro banker’s draft.
    2008 Payment of £200 per week to book, the remaining payable one month before occupation.
    A breakage deposit of £200 per week will be requested in the form of a separate cheque with the final payment. This will be returned by post at the end of the let unless damage has occurred.
    2009 Deposit and breakage deposit will be £220.
  • Rental rates for October to mid May include wood for fires, but is unlikely to include the use of the pool unless the weather is exceptionally warm. A supplement for central heating will be charged dependent on the amount of gas consumed.
    Fans are provided for warm weather, but the house being old has thick walls and remains cool.
  • The property is available for a long (from 3 months) let over the winter months.
    Rate for 3 month period are £700 per month, and £600 for 6 month period..
    Telephone, electricity and gas bills paid by tenant as consumed.

Notes: Linen and towels including beach towels are collected and replaced with a clean set weekly on Saturday, or a day arranged with the caretaker. She will not enter the property while it is let, unless requested by the tenant. The property is situated on different levels, and the pool is not enclosed. It may be unsuitable, therefore, for very young children and the infirm. Wood for fires, cleaning of pool when necessary, are all included in the rent.

Repeat bookings say it all.

A family who stayed at La Cantina in 2005, returned for their holiday in 2006.
This year we will be receiving a family who were with us in 2004, and have had requests this year from 3 of the 7 families who were with us in 2006.

A little slice of heaven

The house and its grounds are beautiful with picture-perfect views from every window. We stayed there for two weeks, summer 2009, with our young children. The children enjoyed the crystal clear pool and walking in the woods surrounding the house.
Arezzo provence is lovely with something beautiful to see every day and not too far away. Florence, Siena and Pisa are all within easy driving distance.
The owners are very helpful both while organising the trip and with anything needed while you're there.
The house was very clean, well-maintained, well-equipped and located near a village that has shops covering all of the basics.
We've already recommended the property to friends and we'd stay there again in a heartbeat if we had the opportunity to visit Italy again.

Lovely villa very well equipped with lovely views and well placed for exploring both Tuscany, Northern Umbria and the Marche. It was quiet without being remote and suited both younger people wanting a pool and art lovers.

In august 2009 we spend 3 wonderful weeks in la Cantina. The very nice and clean house, the top service and support, the wonderful situated big pool was realy a dream. La Cantina is a part of paradise. Every day we were amazed about the wonderful landscap sourrounding the vila.
The most part of time we spend on the terrace and in the pool. It is a top place to recover.
The area is challenging for riding sportly with the bycicle. There are good preconditions riding over passes and also little roads.
We could breath italy atmosphere. Fresh fruits, buyed in the next village, delicious tuscany vine, lively little towns with charme and original piadinas.
We can really recommend the house to our friends
