Montespertoli holiday apartment: Montegufoni (Montespertoli)

The summer of 2008 will be our third year at Il Poggetto. It is a beautiful place and I see it every day as the screen-saver on my PC. The appartments are very well maintained with immaculate bed-linen and towels.There is plenty of storage space and no shortage of cooking utensils and crockery.The main room has a cooking area at one end, with a dining table which we have hardly ever used preferring to eat outside in the loggia.The other end has couches, a coffee table and a TV.The bedrooms are cool and comfortable with large,traditional wardrobes. They both have sliding doors which is a useful space-saver.
The thing that really sets Poggetto apart from other self-catering apartments we have stayed in is the beautiful garden and the swimming pool.The pool is situated on the hillside overlooking the valley and, like the accommodation, is very well looked after.
The surrounding area is Tuscany at it's best with lots of interesting villages and several really good restaurants. We like the fact that these are not "tourist trap" type villages with never-ending pottery shops but real life modern places where people have real jobs. Don't take this comment to mean that they are characterless.That's not the case. The tree shaded square in Montespertoli is lovely and obviously a focal point for the inhabitants. They just give the impression that their life is not about being a tourist attraction. The road network is extensive and it's very easy to drive to places like Greve and San Gimignano if you wish.
One of the things that brings us back every year to this location is the fact that it is easy to drive into Florence along the "back roads" through Chiesa Nuova and Galluzzo and into the Piazzale Michelangelo where we park and take the bus down into Florence.
We have stayed in many places in Italy but Il Poggetto is by far our favourite spot. The owners have taken a great deal of trouble to ensure that visitors have a everything they need for a memorable holiday and while they are always eager to assist their guests they are never intrusive.
