The Mill is situated in a secluded valley in the area known as Garfagnana, a most beautiful, unspoiled and almost completely undiscovered part of Tuscany. The stone built Mill and Farmhouse are newly and very sympathetically renovated, retaining many original features,. They benefit from a riverside location (trout river)and a swimming pool each. The site is totally secluded with the only sound to be heard the birds, and the running of the river at the end of the garden. Each property is well equipped, totally detached, with private eating areas and pools. There is a shaded children's play area too. Bar&shop in local village

Totally detached stone cottage set in grounds of the mill. The house has been sympathetically renovated and has 2 double bedrooms, each of which have an extra single bed. Do not however think 'traditional family room' - these bedrooms are finished to a good standard, and are still romantic. There is one bathroom upstairs, and downstairs a fully equipped traditional style kitchen with aga as well as modern oven and hob, next to the dining room. There is also a separate living room with open fire and sofa bed. Original features abound with beamed ceilings and stone floors, fireplace.... There is a separate eating out area and BBQ as well as the river for swimming/paddling/trout fishing. The Farmhouse has its own pool 10M x 5M

The Old Mill is situated circa 1km from the village of Casciana with its small but lively bar and shop. In the summer the locals arrange local dances etc. It is around a 3km drive to the closest restaurant, and also to Camporgiano with a couple of restaurants, bars, chemist, Monday morning market, and inhabited 'castle'.Castelnuovo around a 20 minute drive away is the main market town with many shops bars, restaurants and wonderful Thursday morning market. The location is around 1 hr 10 mins north of Lucca; half hr from Barga; 90 mins from Pisa, and 2 hrs from Florence. Hill top villages abound, and there is plenty of walking and exploring to do. There are lots of country pursuits - horse riding, mountain biking, local golf... Or just laze at the accommodation and do some fishing.... Airport drive times are 90 mins Pisa; 2 hr 30 mins Genoa; 2 hrs Florence; 2 hrs 45 mins Bologna; 3 hrs 15 mins Milan

    High chair and cot available on request, but main mill not recommended for toddlers due to steep nature of stairs.
    All utilities included with the exception of heating which is payable locally. Wood for fire is provided free of charge.
    Owner is English speaking and will be available for any assistance whilst away. (she is not on site)

This is a water mill originally constructed in 1732, which has been very carefully refurbished as a holiday home with all the comforts you would want, but still maintaining it's original features. The mill was once a very important part of the economy for the local people, at one time supporting 4 fully operational millstones to produce both wheat and chestnut flour. Two of the millstones are still intact and may be viewed on the lower floor. The mill was in use until the 1960s.

We stayed in the farmhouse for a week with our children 3 and 6 years old. The location was very child friendly. The children especially enjoyed playing by the small stream. The location is very private (apart from the mill house next door) and the pool belonging to the farmhouse is not overlooked. The property was done up to a reasonably high standard and the grounds and swimming pool well maintained. We thought the place was very good value. Don't hire too big a car though, the road leading to the property is extremely narrow!
