This recently converted house is situated at the top of the quaint & historic village of Poggio, at the end of a cobbled, & peaceful street. There are wonderful views of uninterrupted countryside from the eating terrace, & from the garden which looks out onto the Serchio valley. Garfagnana is known as the 'Green lung' of Tuscany, & is certainly totally unspoilt. The apartment has been thoughtfully furnished to a good standard, with a perfect balance of old and new - log fire, fitted kitchens, and pristine bathroom. The property is self-contained with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room with fireplace, kitchen/diner and a wonderful terrace.... There is also a laundry room, & enormous additional dining room/garden room, garden, outdoor pizza/bread oven, and a sunbathing terrace along with a further covered terrace area in the garden. There is a wonderful feeling of yesteryear staying in this ancient and peaceful village location

Poggio is situated in the hills/mountains, circa 1 hr North of Lucca. The property is 8km from the market town of Castelnuovo with its bars, restaurants and famous Thursday morning market, although there are other restaurants in the closer vicinity. The historic village which has a bar and small shop is situated in the heart of the Serchio valley, where wonderful views abound! Closest airports Pisa 90 minutes & Genoa 2 hrs 15 mins.

Location: Step back in time! Poggio is a small, historic and friendly village, with its own bar/general store, and a Post Office within a 2 minute walk of the property, and a station within 5 minutes, perfect for exploring when you want a rest from the car. Fishing in the area is excellent, and the possibilities for picnics are endless! Watching the local past-times of bocce, and cheese throwing are also a good way to spend a lazy afternoon, as is swimming in the river by the local meal. Ideal area for touring mountains, lakes, hill top villages, and towns such as Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Barga, Castelnuovo etc. Garfagnana is probably one of the only remaining unspoilt areas of Tuscany.

The village is only a 10 minute drive from Castelnuovo - famous for its Thursday morning markets. There are plenty of supermarkets, shops, banks, restaurants and bars etc here, as well as an outdoor swimming pool.

Eating out/locals: There are plenty of good restaurants in the vicinity, and eating out is a simple, but scrumptious affair. Since the area is un-commercialised, and the majority of food is prepared for locals, restaurants are extremely cheap. The locals are very friendly, although the vast majority do not speak English, so sign language, and a phrase book are the order of the day!!

(1) Affordable, clean and comfortable accommodation with a balcony which overlooks the panoramic Secchio Valley.
(2) Longer stays are available.
(3) A "small" car is an advantage if sightseeing locally.
(4) The villa is about 1 km from station (a level of fitness is required to and from).
(5) Should you require assistance it is readily available.
(6) Some knowledge of Italian language is helpful.
(7) Owner of alimentri store helpful in the selection of food and wines.

This is a superb little place with home comforts and spectacular views. The garden fresh vegetables from the lady next door were especially welcome and she had prepared the cottage to an extremely high standard. The level of equipment is perfectly adequate and there are no quirks to worry about.
We loved the restful pace of the village and my daily lessons in Italian from the grocer were great fun.
The climb up to the property from the village is steep and rules out those with significantly reduced mobility. You can get a car to the front but this is not for the faint hearted. But, once ensconced, all is right with the world and the local wine slips down a treat.

Lage wunderbar, am Ort leider keine Möglichkeit Essen zu gehen. Schlechte Parkmöglichkeiten im Ort.
Das Haus ist gut gepflegt, jedoch eine Belegung mit 6 Personen kaum vorstellbar. 4 Personen ist in Ordnung, falls man mit einem Badezimmer zurecht kommt. Die Küche könnte, was das Geschirr betrifft, besser ausgestattet sein. (Keine Kaffee- bzw. Teekanne, keine guten Messer, nur wenig Besteck)
Die Terrasse und auch die Sonnenterrasse sind ganz traumhaft!
Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback. We will certainly arrange for a coffee maker and pot and will supplement kitchen equipment - thank you for this constructive advice. The house is advertised as sleeping 4 plus 2 with the extra two being on a sofabed - this would be a budget option for a family.
There is no parking directly at the house - just for loading and unloading but there is a little free and safe car park a 2 minute walk away down the hill. There is also a bar a 2 minute walk away which will make food if required. For restaurants one does need a car - town is 10 mins away with a good selection, and there are various restaurants within a 5 minute drive too.
