Location:
Step back in time! Poggio is a small, historic and friendly village, with its own bar/general store, and a Post Office within a 2 minute walk of the property, and a station within 5 minutes, perfect for exploring when you want a rest from the car.
Fishing in the area is excellent, and the possibilities for picnics are endless! Watching the local past-times of bocce, and cheese throwing are also a good way to spend a lazy afternoon, as is swimming in the river by the local meal. Ideal area for touring mountains, lakes, hill top villages, and towns such as Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Barga, Castelnuovo etc. Garfagnana is probably one of the only remaining unspoilt areas of Tuscany.
The village is only a 10 minute drive from Castelnuovo - famous for its Thursday morning markets.
There are plenty of supermarkets, shops, banks, restaurants and bars etc here, as well as an outdoor swimming pool.
Eating out/locals:
There are plenty of good restaurants in the vicinity, and eating out is a simple, but scrumptious affair. Since the area is un-commercialised, and the majority of food is prepared for locals, restaurants are extremely cheap.
The locals are very friendly, although the vast majority do not speak English, so sign language, and a phrase book are the order of the day!!
