Newly renovated 11th C apartment set in the heart of historic Lucca, 'within the walls' and on the most famous Square - Piazza del Ampiteatro. The property is spacious & cool, with living room & bedroom, looking straight into the historic & beautiful Square. To add to the atmosphere, the original frescoes on the ceiling have been uncovered. There is a double bedroom, with en-suite shower room with hydro massage shower. There is also a 2nd shower room for guests sleeping on either the double or single good quality sofa beds in the living area. The living space is open plan with comfortable seating, TV, DVD player, CD player, & dining area, leading to fully equipped kitchen area with washing machine, dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave, fridge. The restaurants and coffee shops on the Square close by midnight ensuring a peaceful night although there is air conditioning in any event if windows need to be closed. Just roll out of your apartment onto the square for coffee and brioche.

The apt is set within the Piazza del Ampiteatro, with its coffee bars, restaurants & real Italian atmosphere! There is a beautiful delicatessen just outside for DIY lunches & breakfast, & numerous restaurants at your doorstep. Lucca was voted Italy's best City in 1994, and no wonder - there is a wealth of historic buildings, interesting architecture, cobbled streets, lots of Piazza's for relaxing, people watching and listening to music. There are the famous walls of the city, which are fully intact and wide. - a place for cycling, jogging, picnicking or just relaxing on the grass...There are lots of cultural events, regular antiques markets, concerts, & of course the designer shops! If you tire of meandering or cycling within the city walls then the coast is 20 mins;Pisa 25 mins; Florence 50 mins; Siena1 hr 40mins; the mountainous region of Garfagnana 40 mins; Barga 40 mins, and of course the beautiful countryside surrounding the city with hilltop villages, plenty of walking..

Leave the car behind: A car is not a necessity at this property since it is only 30 minutes by train from Pisa airport. The city is perfect for a 3 night break, and for a longer stay, the coast, Pisa, Florence, Siena and the Garfagnana are all easily reached by train . If you do bring a car then parking is less than 5 mins away just outside City walls. Loading and unloading at the apartment is permissible.

Peace: Please note that whilst Lucca is a lively and cultural City all year round, the rules concerning preservation of peace in the area is strict and the restaurants in the Square close by midnight. The apartment has air conditioning so if you want an early night then there is no need to leave the windows open. The city is sophisticated and it is rare to find noisy, raucous or drunken behaviour. Any outdoor concerts (often by the very famous) take place in Piazza san Michele. The City is a small town in comparison to UK Cities

Flexibility/short breaks: If you don't wish to stay for a week or fortnight, why not tag a 3 night break to the beginning or the end of the holiday - if you are booking a Sat to Sat stay elsewhere, then this is the ideal opportunity to both extend your holiday and take advantage of cheaper weekday flights. Or, why not combine with a break at Barga, City of Art at 15866.

Relaxing in Lucca

Please pass on our thanks to CLIO for a super holiday in Lucca. The
apartment was just perfect and the situation ideal. Lucca was so relaxing it
was just what my wife and I wanted. Everyone was so friendly and getting
around was fine as we were so central. We have said this in the guest book
and hope to visit for a short break in the near future and have no
hesitation in telling friends about the apartment so be prepared for
enquires from them. Once again than you and all our best wishes.

Italian Delight

This is the most delightful holiday rental I have had the pleasure to stay in. The location for exploring Lucca was perfect as the apartment commands excellent views of the medieval Ampiteatro, which is especially good in the evenings for eating dinner whilst watching the world go by.

Whilst it says it is one bedroomed there is a perfectly adequate sofabed in the lounge and it was a treat for myself and my friend to have a bedroom AND bathroom each! The owners have thought of everything for a short stay in Lucca, including hairdryer, washing machine, microwave, umbrellas and useful information.

If arriving from Pisa airport I would recommend catching the Vaibus then walking 10 minutes around the city wall rather than struggling with bags through the busy shopping streets. However, the shopping literally on the doorstep of the apartment is fantastic, especially the Alimentaria on the corner to the right of the apartment.

Everything was very well organised from booking to departure and I found Lorraine very friendly and helpful.

Given the stairs outside the apartment itself this wouldn't be a suitable property for someone with mobility difficulties, however the entrance is pretty impressive and I noticed some envious looks from people walking past on entering and leaving the apartment.

The purpose of my holiday was a girls' getaway, however I am seriously thinking of booking again to take my partner for a romantic break as the apartment is well suited for that too.

All in all, a fantastic place to stay.

We had a wonderful week in this very spacious and very well equipped apartment (it had everything from dishwahser tablets and washing powder to coffee, olive oil and balsamic vinegar) in the heart of Lucca. The location was perfect and we enjoyed sitting in the windows, people watching.

We really liked 'lovely little Lucca' (as the guide book calls it) but also enjoyed days out, by train to Pisa, Florence and Monterosso, on the coast. The train station is only 10 mins walk from the apartment.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this apartment to any couples.

This apartment was in a perfect position within beautiful Lucca. We really didn't want to leave! and wished we'd booked for more than 4 days. It was easy to find, perfectly clean, cool and had everything we needed. I would recommend this apartment to anyone who loves Lucca/Italy! Opening the shutters in the morning onto the sunny circle was just so nice. I plan to return to Lucca again and again and would be more than happy to stay in this apartment everytime.

A very elegant apartment on a charming street in the centre of a fascinating city. Furnished to the highest standard and decorated really nicely. The kind of house you could return to again and again. It is well within luggage trundling distance of both the bus station and the train station with a range of frequent connections to the coast (Viareggio - 20 mins, Pisa - 60mins, Florence 2 hrs).But Lucca itself could easily detain you for a whole holiday with its wealth of shops , concerts, restaurants and churches.
Owner's Response: Note for future renters - train time to Pisa is 30 mins and to Florence between 80 and 100 mins depending on train taken.
