Chiatri, a small town near Lucca, is situated on the hills overlooking the coastline of Viareggio and is surrounded by woods, olive groves and chestnut trees. This small town still preserves its ancient Tuscan characteristics with its small groups of houses built on different hill peaks.
Chiatri is well known for its chestnuts and for wild boar hunting in winter, and above all for Giacomo Puccini’s villa. Here, in fact, the famous composer used to spend much of his free time receiving friends, hunting in the woods and getting inspiration for his work. It is here in his villa overlooking the lake of Massaciuccoli and the sea that Puccini composed his worldwide famous opera La Tosca.
Chiatri is situated in a fantastic position as it is midway between the medieval town of Lucca and Pisa with its famous leaning tower. It is just about 7 km from the beaches of Viareggio and Versilia and hardly an hour from Florence, the capital of art, Montecatini with its famous spa.
