The house is on a hill on the border of the Alpi Apuane Park, twenty minutes from Lucca and the sea side, one hour from Florence and Pisa airport. It is in a secluded area, surrounded by olive groves and chestnut woods. the house is 450m above sea level and offers amazing views over the valley of Lucca. the house is on the outskirts of a medieval village: a lovely two minute walk through its ancient streets leads you to it. The area offers lovely possibilities to walk: beautiful paths through the hills lead you from village to village, over-viewing the seaside, the islands of Elba and Giglio, the high peaks of the Carrara marble mountains. At the same time it is very close to the sea: Forte dei Marmi is 35 minutes far, the Cinque Terre just over an hour driving. The Romain town of Lucca offers culture, summer music festival, history and art. The Puccini Festival is only half an hour distant. The house is in the heart of Tuscany and it represents it's beauty.

  • The pink and blue bathroom have a lovely view. They have modern with a classical touch style. the pink bathroom has Carrara marble. The green bathroom does not have a window. Its wide shower and modern style makes it comfortable and original. All three bathrooms are spacious and decorated with lovely objects and paintings.

  • The three bedrooms are all charming and very comfortable. Each room has a lovely view : two rooms on the olive grove and garden and one on the ancient village. They all are provided with an en suite bathroom. They are furnished with original Tuscan furniture and with an artistic atmosphere. Each bedroom can have a double bed or two single beds. The cream bedroom is very spacious: it is peaceful, and offers a lovely old desk for reading moments. It has a modern green bathroom with a shower. The yellow bedroom is the exotic bedroom: it's colours remind of far away journeys. The bathroom is painted with a lovely intense blue colour. The green bedroom is the smallest, but its size and colour make it very cosy. The green bedroom has the pink bathroom: the washbasin is in the old round fireplace's niche, and the bath overviews the olive grove. Because of it's charming atmosphere we like to call it the master bedroom.

Cookery course: We offer cookery courses for a minimum of four people. The lesson includes a five course meal: antipasto, primo piatto (home made pasta), secondo (meat or fish or vegetarian meal), contorno (seasonal vegetables) , dolce (home baked caked or tiramisù); all ingredients are fresh and local. The cook will show you how to create the most lovely Italian meals: starting with which herbs to pick from the garden, to how to mix the fresh pasta with your hands until you find the right softness. At the end you will enjoy your dinner with a local red or white whine, maybe with some friends that came over for the occasion. The course can last one day as well as a whole week. the cost is 60 euros per person per lesson. All included.

Painting course: We offer watercolour courses with a very experienced and charming lady: she is a true artist, and has been painting during her whole life. The painting sessions will take place at the house, in the garden, in the olive grove, in a fascinating corner of the medieval village, in a street of Lucca. Costs per person: 50 euros per day, up to five hours. Minimum required: 4 persons and 5 days. All equipment excluded.

Catering service: On a special day you can ask for a special dinner: our cook can prepare a lovely meal with any Italian dish you would like the most, wine included, per 25 euros per person. If you would prefer a quick cool dinner with some of the best italian dishes (prosciutto e melone and bruschetta), we can make you happy for 15 euro per person. This service is only possible for a minimum of 4 persons. The house is self catering but we can stock you up with food by request (especially breakfast can be useful) for your arrival so the next morning you can just relax under the pergola in the garden.

A haven away from it all

The cottage is the last house in the last village on the road, about half an hour from Lucca. The road is steep and windy (take a small car!). It is a delightful, quiet, place where peace can be found. The owner is friendly, has very fluent English, and has presented a beautifully furnished cottage with excellent appliances etc. The nearest shop for supplies is in the next village (Castello) and only has a limited range of goods, but it has an excellent restaurant and the people are friendly. But you do need to get groceries from a supermarket in Lucca or similar. There are excellent Carrefour and Co-op stores in Lucca.

Amazing Tuscan Getaway

We cannot say enough good things about this property.

We stayed at the cottage 5/15/09-5/22/09- it was wonderful. The photos are spot on, in fact, the cottage might be better in person. It's huge; easily fits 6 adults. Everything is pretty new - there's even a dishwasher and a washing machine. The patio and garden are beautiful and the view from the patio is amazing.

The owner is fantastic- very friendly and accomodating and speaks excellent English. The owner provided recommendations for where to visit and where to eat in the area which was great because we were able to get a good feel for the surroundings.

We highly recommend arranging both the cooking lesson and a welcome dinner on the day of your arrival. These were wonderful, memorable experiences for us. We learned a lot about the regional food and the surroundings from the cook- she was excellent and everything was delicious. We got to make home made pasta on the patio-- where else can you do that?!

Hike the footpaths to the surrounding villages- this is a truely unique experience. It was one of our favorite parts of our visit (and we went to Florence, Milan, Lucca and Cinque Terra on this visit). Gives you a sense of how life was before the roads were constructed.

Definitely rent a car- a little one that can handle the tight turns on the winding mountain roads! The village that the cottage is in is strictly residential- no restaurants. Lucca is about 20 minutes from the cottage- beautiful to spend the day in; has a supermarket, loads of shopping and great restaurants.

We will definitely visit this property again.

Cottage refurbished to high standard, maintaining an authentic Italian atmosphere but without lacking luxuries. Beautiful location in the hills (but inevitably this makes travelling to and from the property hairy - lots of blind hair-pins!). Clean. Good customer service from the owner.
