Casa Cristina is a restored cottage set amongst olive groves and vineyards on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Fiano and is approached by a tarmac road. It has its own garden within 1.5 hectares of olives, vines and open grassland to which guests have access. The English owners live next door and are always on call to help you or offer advice during your holiday. There are some lovely walks through sweet chestnut woods in the immediate vicinity of the house.

Fiano is situated in the hills above Lucca in Northern Tuscany and enjoys panoramic views down the valley to the city and towards Pisa beyond. Behind are the wooded foothills of the Apuane Alps and the Garfagnana. Less than an hour’s drive from Pisa airport, Fiano makes an excellent starting point for excursions in Tuscany. Lucca (17km) is undoubtedly the area's most important attraction. However, Florence (87km), Pisa (45km) and Siena (150 km) are all within easy reach by car and there are also regular direct bus and train services to Florence and Pisa from Lucca. For beach lovers, the Versilian Riviera is only 27 km away.

  • The shower rooms have recently been refitted to a high standard using traditional tiles and modern fittings. The vanity units have Carrara marble tops and useful storage area underneath.

Fiano Village: The village of Fiano is one kilometre downhill from Casa Cristina. There is a restaurant and bar, a small general store with a good range of items for sale including fresh fruit and vegetables, a butcher, a baker, and a post office which opens two mornings a week. There are many other restaurants serving excellent Tuscan food or pizzas within a 15 minute drive. The nearest supermarket is about 15 minutes drive down the valley where there are also 2 banks with ATMs, another post office, a petrol station and other shops.

The swimming pool: The swimming pool (10m x 5m) is open from May to September inclusive and is shared with the owner. The pool is 1.2m deep at the shallow end and 1.6m deep at the deep end. It is surrounded by paving and has two sun bathing terraces with loungers, large sun umbrellas, and comfortable garden furniture. The view from the pool down the valley to Lucca and towards Pisa beyond is arguably one of the best in Tuscany.

another fab fortnight in this delightful cottage. never a disappointment all is as described and the scenery and views from the pool are breathtaking

Perfect quiet holiday

Casa cristina is a perfect house in a perfect location. The house has everything you could need on holiday and is beautifully clean and well maintained. The location is up a steep twisty road which added to the fun every time we left to explore the surrounding location. The beach (with very warm sea) is a 45 min drive away. Lucca is by far the best italian town I have visited, best visited in the early evening when the day trippers have left. The owners were on hand to answer any questions and share information a big thank you to them for creating such a perfect holiday destination.

The best we had so far

We had two lovely weeks (11/7 - 25/7 2009) at Casa Christina. Our two girls (7&8 yrs) used the beautiful pool every day with much fun. The cottage is well furnished (good beds, fully equiped kitchen, BBQ and gardenchairs etc).
The hospitality and servicelevel of James and Christine was great. The girls were fond of them. The view from the pool over the Tuscany valley was breathtaking.
We went to Lucca and Pisa by car, 25 and 50 minutes drive. Beautifal cities, lovely restaurants and shops.
Casa Christina is very suitable for young children and teenagers. We recommend this cottage for them.

The perfect place for relaxing

We had a fantastic week at Casa Christina. Christine & James were the perfects hosts, helpful and informative but allowing us our personal space and privacy. The villa and gardens are just excellent with magnificant views across to Lucca and beyond. Walking in the area was just to my taste, scenic, quite strenuous but extremely rewarding, went someway to offset the intake of calories!!

We used Casa Christina mostly to have a relaxing holiday and it was perfect for that. It is also a good base to sightseeing with many local places of interest nearby. Christine and James are a mine of useful information and very happy to advise.

All in all a wonderful place and a great holiday, thank you Christine and James

Gem of a villa in unspoilt part of Tuscany

This delightful villa is a lovely place for a totally relaxing holiday. The description of the property is accurate, if anything, the reality is better. It was spotlessly clean and extremely well maintained. Christine and James (and their delightful dogs) were always about, but not in any way obtrusive. They were very knowledgeable about the area and happy to share this knowledge with you. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants the combination of an "away from it all" holiday with the benefit of being not too far away from other attractions.
If you are wanting to cook for yourself, the kitchen is well stocked as per the description. The large fridge and good sized freezer compartment mean that you can stock up on food to avoid unnecessary trips to the supermarket. The home grown Olive oil provided was gorgeous!
The beautiful,genuine Italian wood-burning stove made up for the fact that it was a little chilly in the evenings as we were there quite early in the season - we had great fun with logs and pine cones! (all provided)
The swimming pool was an added bonus and was delightfully lacking in chlorine. We didn't go far and didn't sample the delights of local restaurants and sights etc., but there was plenty of guidance from previous guests in the guest book.
