This is an exceptional property, situated in 16 hectares of land, including vineyards, olive groves & a chestnut wood with stream, ideal for picnics. The views are unbeatable - overlooking Barga & the Apuane Alps. All this peace & tranquillity, yet less than 4 km from the Medieval town of Barga, with its renowned restaurants, cobbled streets, and 10th century cathedral,& a 700m walk to the local village for excellent restaurant, & shop. Restored to a very high standard, with chestnut beamed ceilings and terracotta floors, traditional quality furniture and fabrics. There are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, 2 kitchens in the main house & the romantic fully equipped barn, with a further kitchen/diner/living room , bedroom leading to covered private terrace, & en-suite bathroom with jacuzzi. The pool is brand new, boasting stunning views - the perfect place to relax. If required, we can arrange helicopter transfer from Pisa; meals on site, daily cleaning, horse riding.

Situated in 16 hectares of land, with wonderful views at every turn, this property is a perfect rural retreat yet a 10 minute drive from he Medieval town of barga, with its cobbled streets, duomos, and ancient architecture. Barga is renowned in the area for its good quality but reasonably priced restaurants, and often outdoor concerts (mainly classical and jazz) are performed in the evenings, along with firework displays. There is also a station for stress free exploring. Closer to home and within easy walking distance is the village of Albiano with its good restaurant and shop. Barga itself is circa 1 hr from Pisa; 90 mins from Florence; 45 minutes from the walled mediaeval town of Lucca and close to the National Parks of the Apuane Alps. Hilltop villages abound - exploring can be either rural or townie - the choice is yours. Airports - Pisa 1 hr; Florence 90 mins; Genoa 2 1/2 hrs; Bergamo 3 hrs; Bologna 2 1/2 hrs (Forli 3 hrs 25 mins)

Notes: Layout is as follows: Main house - ground floor - large living/dining room with open fireplace leading to outdoor eating area. Kitchen. 1 twin & 1 double bedroom, shower room. First floor - double bedroom, en-suite shower room, second living room with double sofa bed. Barn large ground floor living/dining room with kitchen area. 1st Floor double bedroom leading to covered terrace. En-suite bathroom with jacuzzi. Each property has full kitchen facilities including dishwasher (washing machine is shared). Both have stereos; SAT TV; indiv Bbq and eating areas. The pool is 10M x 5M and 1.4M deep. If required, daily maid service can be arranged, as can meals - 2 min walk away(subject to numbers). Horse riding is within walking distance, and we can arrange helicopter rides - all at an extra cost. Use of the exclusive club Il Ciocco with tennis courts, gym, restaurants, private dining facilities and nightclub - within walking distance.

Calm and serenity

We stayed at the property for one week in April 2007. There were 6 adults, 3 children and one small baby. We found the property to be beautiful, with everything we needed and everything clean and prepared for our visit. Our hosts were helfpul without being intrusive and provided good advice and ideas of what to do an see in the area. The pool area is gorgeous and there is lots of space for kids to jump and run and play games.
We have only some small comments for potential future guests: the main house and barn are lovely but are not well connected to each other (pretty steep rock stairs). This was okay for us, but may not be for other less able guests. Also, the main house only had a small balcony and the outside table that was pictured in the advertisement was not easily reached from the cooking and lounging areas of the main house (it was sort of below the main part of the house).

As a final point, please take the above two comments as small "things to be aware of" - the property really is magnificant and we would all definitely stay their again as we had a spectacular time!

Owner's Response: For future renters, do note that we have since added a second service kitchen next to the eating area to make the terrace more functional and to ensure cooking facilities and so forth are immeidately on hand.

A Fantastic Place!

The most amazing place to stay - would absolutely recommend it although access to the pool is not for the faint-hearted as is quite a climb from the villa. Other than this, it is a beautiful place and is a very short distance from Barga which is well worth visiting. The owners who live on site (but some distance away) were charming and helpful; nothing was too much trouble. Hope to return next year.

Sophisticated rural charm!

Peace and tranquillity with superb views. Everything promised was delivered and more.
Excellent large supermarket 10 mins away plus local markets.
Great tennis courts in Barga , 10 mins drive.
Owners hosted optional dinner, not to be missed. Also good local restaurant a short walk up through estate.
Good days out to Florence, Pisa and Lucca.
Accommodation rustic with class! Three kitchens to choose from and an extensive herb garden. Outdoor loggia with large table fantastic for long lunches and evening meals.
Suprisingly very few insects during our two August weeks.
