'APUAN ALP ' a world to get to know ' - The Apuan Alps, which are called 'Alps' because of their morphology, are a mountain range which extends over a surface of 400 square kilometres in the north-west corner of Tuscany. The range is mainly composed of limestone rocks and it runs parallel to the coast, rising up to 1947 metres .
The complex geological history of these mountains began about 220 million years ago, during the Mesozoic era, and is only partly connected with the history of the Etruscan Appennines.-On these mountains a lot of quarries extract the world known WHITE CARRARA MARBLE
Ski:
Camaiore is near the two most important ski areas in Tuscany, Abetone and Cerreto Laghi.
The first ski resort has a large number of runs of all level and have a link with the ski area of Monte Cimone; together forms the most important ski resort in the Central Italy.
The second ski resort have a little number of runs (of all level) but have a modern indoor ice stadium for ice-skating. From Camaiore you can reach the two resorts in the same time by car, about 90 min.-
Golf:
Close to Camaiore, 15 km, you can find the Versilia Golf Club. The course, set like a diamond between the Apuan Alps and the sea, has been designed by the hand of the famous and creative Venetian architect Marco Croze. The Versilia Golf Club is an island in full bloom extending on the territories of Pietrasanta, Forte dei Marmi and Montignoso. Established in 1990, it became a point of reference for all Italian and Foreign keen golfers in a very short time. A matchless landscape that fascinated the regular customers of the Versilia Golf Club, who, even if playing a few hundred meters away from the sea, take advantage of the Apuan Alps peaks and use them as a “target” for their own tee shot. The golf sports-ground design has a “lively” development that reminds a “parkland course” and stretches on a flat land provided with wide open spaces and broad fairways. Golfers of all handicap levels may play exciting challenges and compete amicably on this playing course; many tees, large and wide, enable to vary tee off points at each hole and force to alternate each club in the golf bag very often. 18 holes, par 71, for a total length of 5873 metres, are the features of this course which assure to players continuous excitement and difficulties.
