Il Metato is a beautifully restored ancient chestnut mill on the slopes of picturesque Casoli with glorious views over the Tuscan hills and yet only 10 minutes from the lovely spa town of Bagni di Lucca with its bars, restaurants and famous spa facilities. Impeccable accommodation offering an ensuite double bedroom (cot provided), a twin bedroom, bathroom with shower, open plan kitchen, dining room with open fireplace & mezzanine seating area. There are two outdoor terraces for eating & lounging and a garden leading on to the terraced slopes of the wooded hillside. The house sleeps 4 + 1 baby and has been exquisitely renovated from an ancient chestnut mill. The interior is traditional Tuscan with a modern twist and packed with all the comforts you would require to make your stay enjoyable and unforgettable.

Il Metato is close to the spa town of Bagni di Lucca in a pretty village called Casoli in Northern Tuscany. The property is conveniently located only 56km from Pisa as well as being close to the famous and beautiful city of Lucca (29 km). Casoli is a small medieval village set 560 metres high in the beautiful, green and still unspoilt valley of the Lima river offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The Val di Lima is renowned for its temperate climate, long hot summers and beautifully wooded hills and valleys burgeoning with lemons, olives, fruits and chestnuts. The people are welcoming and friendly and the food is of the highest quality both in restaurants, trattorias, shops and markets. Il Metato is ideally placed if you want tranquil holiday in a traditional, rural Italian village. The villagers have a simple rhythm of life, connected to the seasons in which self-sufficiency plays a large part.

The house was great - nicely restored, comfortable, attractive and well equipped (and spotless when we arrived). The main cooking/eating/living area is where you enter on the ground floor with a spiral staircase leading down to the main bedroom and up to the mezzanine and second bedroom. This is all open, so gives a nice feeling a space and worked well for 2 couples (but a bit hazardous with a toddler - we managed with a determined 2 1/2 yr but you might want to be aware). Cristina was very helpful and sent lots of information about the area before we arrived and patiently answered various email queries. The village is peaceful. You are immediately struck by the lack of traffic noise which makes for a relaxing atmosphere (much nicer to hear cuckoos and bees rather than cars). Lots of walks from the village - with beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and other villages. A friendly shop/bar/restaurant in the village- not smart but very easy-going. I would thoroughly recommend this place for a holiday - lovely house, nice garden/terraces with wonderful views, great area and friendly people.
