Mountain house in nature park near Lucca, Florence & Pisa

This house stands at 900m above sea level in an oasis of natural protection, 2km from the famous 'Orrido di Botri' a beautiful & narrow natural canyon. You can hike up the river inside the canyon to find waterfalls & a small lake & there is a restaurant/bar at the entrance. Eagles nest in the canyon & circle overhead frequently, deer come right up to the house & wildlife is abundant including cuckoos, beavers & porcupines. It is an ideal spot for hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, bird watching, mountain climbing, Kayaking, white-water rafting, fishing & swimming in the Lido in Bagni di Lucca; an old spa town frequented by Shelly, Byron & many more famous names & nobility. The swimming baths (2 indoor pools & 3 outdoor pools) share the therapeutic thermal waters of the health Spa, which offers many therapeutic treatments including massage. The Lido is set against the stunning backdrop of the Appenine Mountains. Close by is 'Grotto al vento' with its underground crystal lake.

Viareggio, a fashionable Italian beach resort, is a comfortable drive away (50 km through beautiful wine country). The house is 70 km from Pisa with it's leaning tower, 90 km from Florence, an art lovers paradise and full of lovely shops & a very good outdoor market. La Spezia and Cingue Terre are 100km from house. Lucca is only 40 km away, with very sophisticated modern shops, restaurants & bars in an ancient walled city. You can rent a bike for 2.50 per hour & cycle around the city walls offering spectacular views of the city & the surrounding countryside. Abetone- mountain skiing resort is 40km from house by normal road and just 15km from house via mountain-pass. There are many other castles, bridges & places of interest too numerous to mention, suffice to say that there's plenty to explore.

  • The master bedroom is a large room with a very high ceiling and exposed dark wood beams. It has an extra large double bed. There are a further 2 twin bedrooms both with 2 single beds and 2 removable Child beds. There is also a pull out sofa bed (double) downstairs in the Living room.

The house is supplied by a natural spring water, however it does not have official drinking certificate and whilst the tap water can be used for cooking, cleaning & showering, there is a source for pure filtered spring drinking water 1 km from the house & we fill our bottles there for drinking water. 12 bottles of fresh (filtered spring) water will be in the house when guests arrive. The house doesn't have central heating, but we have 3 electrical heaters, 2 paraffin heaters and fire place. House is habitable during winter time too. We have removable outdoor swimming pool and some toys for children's.
