Wonderfully restored and very romantic mediaeval 'palace' in village location. Views of open countryside, and surrounding mountains are magnificent. The apartment retains most original features, boasting chestnut wood beams and beautiful floors throughout. The living room has a large fireplace, the kitchen has been restored in a traditional/country style, and the master bedroom has a draped 4 poster bed, and further fireplace. The piece di resistance is however the extensive private terrace - impossible to tear oneself away from this romantic relaxing and dining area - just spend the entire holiday, reading, listening to music, painting, eating, and drinking wine, just popping down to the local shop and restaurant for provisions when required! No cars are permitted in the old part of this village,(free parking at 'the square' and the only sound to be heard is the chiming of church bells! This is a real romantic treat!!

Vallico is set high in the hills, circa 1 hr 30 mins North of Pisa, and one hour North of Lucca in the green and luscious Garfagnana region of Northern Tuscany. Beat the crowd - this is away from it all Italy, although within reach of Pisa (1hr 15mins), Lucca (50 mins), Florence (1hr 40 mins), Barga (25 mins), and Castelnuovo (30 mins), with thousands of villages besides! The coast is 1 hr 15 mins away. Airports - Pisa as above; Genoa & Bologna 2.5 hrs; Florence as above. Pisa under 1 1/2 hrs

Vallico di Sopra: The house is reached via a 2 minute walk from the village square through mediaeval streets, where cars cannot pass. The house is situated right on the edge of the village in a very peaceful location, with the best views!!!!!!! The village boasts a small shop open every day, and a restaurant which is open every evening in the summer, & weekends out of season. The vegetable van also visits weekly for those authentic Italian shops with the locals! There are plenty of places to eat very well, and very cheaply locally, but you do need a car, and a phrase book!

The location and the property was very peaceful and romantic too. The terrace and the surrounding mountains were magnificent. Everything was clean and we had very good service. We would recommend this property to couples. The food in the local restaurant was excellent. We visited Pisa, Lucca, Barga and Castelnuevo, which all were very easy to reach from the "palace".

Wonderfull mountain home, clean and well maintained. View from deck is magnificant! Quite and away from it all, a great base for hiking and exploring Northern Tuscany. Drive up from main road is about 1/2 hour and only really scary the first time, try and get ther before dark the 1st time!

We spent a very happy week here in September. If you are looking for Beauty,tranquility and/or hill walking,this is the place.The verandah is superb and the house as described( although the reference to a sofa bed is misleading. There is a sofa but not suitable for sleeping....and a larger coffee pot would be good). Tomoko, the owners rep. is a star and always willing to help., and the bread baked daily in the village will set you up for the day. This is a friendly place, We wished we had more italian to profit from it. And so to the road up to Vallico--. when we had got to know it it took 20 minutesand it's heart in mouth stuff for the first few runs....then,to quote the guest book, it becomes entertainment! The village restaurant is open daily in July and August and at weekends otherwise and is very good value. Pisa and Lucca are worth the trip but Florence seemed just to far to pull us away from the terrace! We have lovely memories and yes, we do hope to go back.

Schlafen wie wie ein Landlord...

...oder wenigstens wie ein Priester!
Beide lebten nämlich in diesem Palsast in den Bergen auf dem Dorf. Es war überraschend, wie hoch auf dem Berg und wie klein der Ort ist. Wer mit wenigen Begegnungen und mit ringsum Natur auskommt, der wird den Platz lieben. Wir waren sehr beeindruckt, denn die Wohnung "Nobile" in dem Palast sieht viel schöner, geräumiger und edler aus, als auf den vorhandenen Fotos. Wir haben uns gerne dort aufgehalten und wären sicher noch seltener hinab gefahren, wenn wir nicht 2 Kinder dabei gehabt hätten. Wer jedoch tägliche Ausflüge in die Umgebung machen möchte, der muss sich über die Fahrtzeit im Klaren sein. Bis ans Meer fuhren wir eineinhalb Stunden im Auto, nach Lucca etwa eine gute dreiviertel Stunde und nach Gallicano zum Supermarkt eine halbe Stunde. Wobei allein die Fahrt vom Domizil (die Bergstrasse bis zur Hauptverbindungsstrasse) hinab 20 Minuten beanspruchte. Vielleicht sollte ich noch den Fussweg zum Haus erwähnen. Man muss nämlich am Marktplatz parken (es gibt kaum mehr Strassen) und von dort mit sämtlichem Gepäck durch die Gässchen zum Palast...es sei denn, man hat Gefolgschaft dabei!!!
Erwähnenswert ist noch die englischsprachige Korrespondenz. Es wird ausschließlich in Englisch oder Italienisch ausgetauscht!!!
Wir würden sofort wieder hinfahren. Es war ein bißchen ernüchternd in die eigenen Räume zu kommen...
Deswegen könnten wir jetzt unsere Decke mit Ananas und Äpfeln bemalen und doch noch Dielen verlegen?
Ein dickes Seufzen und große Vorfreude auf den nächsten Urlaub!
