A peaceful and beautiful hideaway

This property certainly has a wow factor, from the moment you arrive and park in front of it beside the huge spruce. It is a beautifully restored mill, set in the rolling hills very close to the gorgeous walled city of Lucca.
The doors open onto a very spacious sitting room which is furnished with soft leather seating placed on lovely red tiles. There is a fully equipped large kitchen, including a lava grill, dishwasher and an area for dining. There are two bedrooms upstairs, both with their own fully tiled bathrooms - the one off the largest bedroom was, to quote my husband, 'large enough to hold a dance in'! A laundry room is also upstairs. The house is tastefully furnished with a mix of antiques and modern. We particularly liked the Orkney chair on the landing!
The house was spotlessly clean on our arrival, the towels soft and fluffy, and the bedlinen smooth and fresh. We particularly loved the bottle of delicious olive oil that was there - left by Mark, one of the owners. He was very helpful and friendly, answering our questions about what to see, where to go etc.
The whole house has a lovely airy feeling to it, and it was so good to relax with a glass of wine on the terrace in the evening, listening to the frogs in the mill stream which runs by the property. We were lucky to see a hoopoe and a flock of bee-eaters on more than one occasion.
There is a good selection of helpful books and information on the surrounding area. Lucca is about twenty minutes drive away, and is a must for any visitor. There is a small but well stocked supermarket in the village just a couple of kilometres away from the house.
