Photos and Description of this Bagni di Lucca holiday cottage 3 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with 1 ensuite, sleeps 6

The cottage lies at one end of the village about 3 minutes walk from the main piazza with its car park, restaurant/bar. The cottage is part of the mountain; the first floor, has an entrance with a traditional Italian arched double door leading into lounge where there is a great stone fireplace with a large wood fired stove. This leads to the recently renovated kitchen with its dresser, dishwasher, hob and large round dining table that seats six. The stairs lead up to a two bedrooms, one twin bedded with en suite bathroom and one with a queen size four poster bed. A few more steps up leads to the upper lobby with the larger bathroom off it and side door to the garden; the stairs go up to the final double bedroom all with tiled floors and timbered ceilings. The property is surrounded by a terraced garden with grapevines and brick built barbecue. You can relax and sit under the shade of the fig tree with wonderful views over the valley to the surrounding hilltop villages and mountains.

The village of Casoli rests in a notch on the shoulder of a mountain between the remains of a castle ( circa 1180 AD) on a rocky bluff and a lake in ancient chestnut woods. The castle and village are above Gole di Cocciglia, a gorge cut by the fast flowing River Lima. Casa Fico lies at the end of the village with wonderful views looking across the river and its valley, to the hilltop villages of Limano and Vico. The winter resort of Abetone is about 45 minutes drive north, great for a few days casual skiing. In summer its 15 minutes drive south to the pretty riverside town of Bagni di Lucca with its (Roman) Thermal Spa baths and beauty treatments, as well as its six restaurants, numerous cafes and shops. Its 25 minutes further to the walled town of Lucca, you can hire a bike and ride its medieval streets and walls, climb the Guigno Bell Tower crowned by oak trees. An hour puts you in front of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Florence is further, so make it easy, take the train from Lucca.

Notes: This cottage sits on the edge of a village on the edge of a mountain it is terraced with many levels and many steps and as such we feel that it is unsuitable for toddlers or the infirm elderly. The garden to the side of the cottage leads to to woodland paths which lead up to the old Castle this in turn leads to the bluff over a rocky gorge with a 30 metre/100 ft fall which could be dangerous. We do not accept any responsibility for any activity in these areas.. Having written the above the village has many children and teenagers, who come to no harm.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Bagni di Lucca, Italy

Ski: The cottage is near Abetone winter ski resort which is well known all over Italy and virtually unknown in the UK. Abetone is 1400 metres above the sea level, it is set in a splendid National forest. Nice even in summer, with its numerous hill walks. The highest point is Monte Gomito at 1940m. Ski runs are available in four picturesque valleys: Luce, Sestaione, Lima and Scoltenna. There are numerous ski facilities: 1 cable car, 11 chair lifts (3 fast), 15 ski-lifts, 37 ski slopes, 5 ski schools, 2 cross-country slopes and 20 kilometres of ski slopes are covered by artificial snow-making ensuring skiing. This creates an extensive network of mixed-ability pistes above and below the tree-line. This resort gets very busy at the weekends because it is so close to Florence however during weekdays it can be very quiet and pleasant. The cottage would suit a mixed party of skiers/non-skiers who want to sight-see and ski.

Just a quick note to say that we have had the MOST AMAZING time at Casa Fico. We enjoyed every minute. It was a privilege to stay in your home.
Best Wishes, JP DERBY JULY 06....
The cottage was delightful - we explored and enjoyed Florence, Lucca,
Pisa, mountains and villages but it was always a pleasure and a
privilege to start and finish each day in the garden with the best view
in Tuscany! E & B MAY 07....
Also to thank you for letting us stay at the house, we all had a lovely time and were most impressed with the mountainous setting. We visited Florence by train and was amazed how excellent and inexpensive the train service is. We also visited Lucca, what a lovely walled city. Pisa was lovely too. Once again thank you very much and we'd love to make a return visit.
best wishes, GW, STAFFS SEPT 06....
Just a note to say that Michelle and I had a
fantastic time in Casa Fico. An unbelievable location! We even got in
some snowboarding in Abetone. SJ, IRELAND MARCH 07

The perfect mountain cottage

Review Submitted: August 28, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
This property is one of the most beautiful we have ever rented. If you want to get away from it all but at the same time not be too far from lots of interesting things then I truly recommend 'Casa Fico'. The owners description is spot on and communication and advice given to us was excellent. If you are lucky enough to go when the figs are ripe, eat them! They are the best we've ever had!
As well as totally chilling out at the house taking in the breathtaking views, we went hiking in Abetone, sightseeing in Pisa, Lucca, Siena and Volterra and for a dip in the sea. A car is essential and some places are a couple of hours drive away though knowing we were returning to the peace and quiet of Casa Fico made it all worthwhile!

The Perfect Getaway

Review Submitted: July 7, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
What a place! The views were amazing, the house charming. The walk back up the hill to the parking is a shock at first but you soon get used to it, listen, if the 84 year old lady who lives nearby can do it!?
We stayed in June and the weather was fantastic, even the storm we experienced was stunning; watching the clouds roll over the mountains and the thunder and lightening crash around the valley. We had a car which meant many places were in easy reach, Pisa, Lucca, Bagni di Lucca, Florence, (best to catch the train from Pistoia, very easy and convenient, only 2.90E) Sienna and we even went to Maranello (Ferrari of course) and Bologna. We also went to Marina di Pisa and dipped our feet in the Mediterranean. Just drive between Marina di Pisa and Terrenia on the coast you will find a stretch of beach not grabbed by hotels. The Torre del Lago Puccini is also well worth a look.
We did amongst all this hectic tourist viewing fit in a day in the garden enjoying the relaxing surroundings, we saw a deer in the undergrowth whilst enjoying a leisurely lunch watching the ever changing sky and mountainsides. The kitchen is well equipped, the owner is a real foodie as is evidenced by the cook books. The bathrooms great with power showers. The local restaurant is good; the cook makes alll her own pasta which is very moreish! They are also very welcoming. Tips would be, remember a good small pair of binoculars both for nature watching and the many wonderful church ceilings, the Baptistry in Florence a must. Mosquito repellent for the evenings and its worth driving to the Leclerc at Gallicano to stock up. Otherwise the supermarket in Bagni is okay. Finally enjoy this wonderful haven, we certainly did!

The cottage was lovely, the setting was lovely, the view from the garden was fantastic. In the morning we watched the sun rise over the mountains with the birds singing it was so peacefull and relaxing. We explored the whole area visiting Pisa, Florence, Lucca and the mountains we even swam in the stream at the bottom of the valley. The information the owner provided was fantastic.I would recommend this cottage everyone.
