Casa Cucule lies off the beaten track, in the Chianti wine region. It nestles on a hillside just below at tiny hamlet with beautiful views out over a hidden valley across to the typical Tuscan hilltop village. There is only one apartment for rent at Cucule; it was our home before the rest of the house was finally restored in 2003. The apartment is perfect for 2 but can sleep 4 good friends or family. We bought our simple farmhouse in 1991 and have restored it, literally from ruins, using traditional Tuscan materials including chestnut beams and terracotta ceiling and floor tiles. The interior reflects the traditional country style of the house and includes many finds from my trips to India and Africa as a textile designer. It also has up-to-date modern appliances and high quality fixtures and fittings. From the wonderful smell of lavender and other herbs planted around the house, to the eclectic furnishings that decorate the rooms inside, Casa Cucule is truly a home

Florence (60 mins.) and San Gimigniano (90 mins.) to name but a few. It is also a great location if you enjoy walking; there are many quiet country roads, tracks and marked walks to follow. The timeless relaxing quality of the area, the personal quality of the accommodation and the ease of reaching many tourist attractions make Cucule perfectly situated for solitude or exploring; whatever you want your holiday to be.

Notes: Accommodation - The private and self-contained 60sq meter 1 bedroom apartment is located on the ground floor of the left hand side of the house. It can sleep 2 to 4 people and includes a roomy double bedroom with en suite shower room. A comfortable living space with a sitting area (sofa-bed), a dining area and a fully equipped 'cooks' kitchen area allow for plenty of space to lounge, cook a wonderful meal with local ingredients, or just relax and enjoy the peace. The large private terrace area to the front and side of the apartment is comfortably furnished and is perfect for leisurely “al fresco” meals, napping on a sun lounger soaking up the Tuscan sunshine, enjoying the surrounding aromatic garden, gazing at the stunning views beyond by day or the star lit sky at night. Access: Main roads, country tarmac road and then approx. 3 km of country track road.

Swimming Pool : The large infinity edge 15m x 5.50m pool is set among olives groves with great views over a hidden valley to the wooded hills and hill top village of Montebenichi: It is shared only with us, the owners, and only one of us swims. The deep end is 2.40m, great for diving into to cool off.

Artists and Writers: An inspirational spot for all forms of creativity and relaxation.

Booking conditions & Payment : Terms of payment - 20% of total payment to be paid with booking. The balance to be paid on arrival. 100% payment on booking if 6 weeks or less before rental starts. On payment of deposit directions will be sent on how to get to the property. Returnable deposit - € 200 to be paid on arrival, it will be reimbursed after inspection of the property on departure. Booking - From Saturday afternoon to the following Saturday morning. Arrival - 16.00 to 19.00 Departure latest 10.30 Other times by arrangement. Included in rental - Electricity, gas for cooking and hot water, 1 weeks supply of clean bed linen, bath and kitchen towels and a ‘welcome pack’ of essential groceries to make an evening meal and breakfast. Final cleaning – Guests are requested to leave the property tidy, and in good order on their departure (fridge empty, garbage taken away, beds stripped).

TUSCAN RETREAT

We spent our first week in this lovely peaceful part of Tuscany, well off the beaten track in the most delightful setting. The spacious apartment is tastefully and artistically presented which made us feel immediately at home. Outside there is a large terrace with sunshade and views over the valley to the hills beyond. The pool is unusually generous in size so that you can have a really decent swim and there are plenty of sunbeds. Our hosts were extremely friendly and attentive but never intrusive. The local Osteria in Montebenichi is excellent and another favourite was at San Sano located in beautiful countryside. The area is a very unspoilt part of Tuscany with many delightful historic hill towns and villages. Susan spent many years searching for her perfect location and has created a superb and magical home which we felt privileged to share for all too short a time.
