Podere Scopeto is a farmhouse villa with a main building and a separate self-contained studio sleeping max 12 standing at about 600m with outstanding views towards the west overlooking the classic chianti woods and vineyards in the area of Gaiole (15 min) in triangle Siena, Florence and Arezzo adjoining the classic supertuscan producing wineries like Brolio, Castello Meleto, Coltibuono with horizon view of Radda and Castellina. Large saltwater pool with spacious sun terraces and pergolas offer our guests boyant relaxation, but for the more energetic there are miles of woods and hills to walk in beyond the 30 privately owned acres surrounding the house. Huge BBQ with enough chairs and tables to seat 24 comfortably on one of three terraces, more secluded hammocks and picnic places under the shade of our olives and sweet chestnuts. Reliable crystal clear water from our own well and faultless heating and plumbing system newly installed. 2 fireplaces cheer our winter visitor.

The farmhouse sleeps 10 plus a child in a small child's bed which normally serves as a small sofa in one of the bedrooms. If only the farmhouse is rented and not the studio you may find strangers about 60 metres away in the studio who share the pool and parking area with you.

Additional information about rental rates

  • In July and August a surcharge of 10% of the rent is to be paid for bookings of less than 2 weeks. 50% of the rent is to be paid at the time of booking, the remainder before your arrival. We also ask for a deposit of 400 Euro (£350) per week to cover the final cleaning, if more than 6 hours, any excessive use of gas and electricity and bad breakages as well as the laundry cost of your linen/towels . The deposit will be returned minus the above expenses within 3 weeks of departure.

  • The Master bedroom has the most sensational view towards the horizon straight from your bed. The Indian bedroom gets its name from the huge Indian wooden front door we brought back from Pondicherry and installed as a door for this room. The Bali bedroom gets its name from the romantic wooden four-poster bed carved in interesting designs and colours. It also has a wooden desk with views towards the sunset too beautiful and romantic to let you concentrate on your work at the desk. The tower room is a favourite with children and is reached up a spiral staircase.

Notes: There are two fireplaces, one in the sitting-room area and another one around the corner in the dining area. There are also two dishwashers. There is no telephone, but mobile phone sand blackberries receive well on our hill. We have a ping-pong table under a pergola, which also converts into an outside table.

Lovely house but a few problems.

This is a very nice house indeed with amazing views. The location is so quiet and peaceful with not another house or building in sight. It has the best equipped kitchen we have experienced in a house for this number of people. Plenty of pots, pans and utensils to cook for a large number. The swimming pool is delightful although it was lacking enough sun beds when we were there in June. I believe the owner intends to buy more.

The house was not quite as clean as we would have liked, particularly as the end of rental cleaning was on the expensive side at 95 Euros for a party of 7.

The local town of Gaiole in Chianti which is about 20 minutes away is lovely and has everything one might need in terms of shopping and places to eat. There is a small supermarket, an excellent butcher, a couple of delis, a very good greengrocer and a chemist. Radda, which is a bit further away is also a very nice little town and has good shopping facilities including a larger supermarket.

One thing you need to beware of when you book your car hire is that the road down to the house from the main road is unmade (about 2 - 3 kms) and can be very difficult in a small car. The owner does warn you about this when you get the final information prior to the rental period but we booked our car rental before we were aware of the state of the road. One of our cars was a Ford Focus and was fine but the other car was a Fiat Punto which was lower and we ended up damaging the undercarriage of the car (which the car rental insurance does not cover!).

We really enjoyed eating at home most evenings watching the gorgeous sunsets but if you want an excellent dinner out one evening the Bottega del Trenta is a very special place to go. It's about 25 minutes away.
Owner's Response: Thank you for the nice review which I hope will help interested parties. We have dealt with the points: the unmade road has been flattened and gravelled but will always need careful slow driving, the deckcharis have been doubled and the final cost includes cost of laundry for sheets, 2 pillowcases each and 2 towels each for the whole house.
There are many wonderful restaurants nearby which we are happy to inform you about.

Wunderschöne Anlage

Einsame Lage, wunderschönes Haus und ein Pool, der schöner nicht sein könnte.
Und das alles mitten im Chianti Classico.
Das Haus hat 5 Schlafzimmer, wovon 2 aber wohl eher für Kinder geeignet sind. Es gibt zwei Terrassen, wovon eine sehr geschützt ist und die andere wunderschöne Sonnenuntergänge zu bieten hat. Zusätzlich gibt es noch eine tolle Poolterrasse. (Der Pool ist übrigens ziemlich tief, wir haben dies sehr genossen, da er wettkampftauglich war. Kleine Kinder können aber definitiv nicht stehen.)
Das Haus und die gesamte Anlage war insgesamt sehr gepflegt. Es gibt eine große offene Küche mit einer Arbeitsinsel in der Mitte und genügend Töpfen, Geschirr und Besteck ! Die Ausstattung war wirklich hervorragend. Umso mehr haben wir es bedauert,dass die Sauberkeit der Küche leider nicht mit der des restliche Hauses mithalten konnte. Wir mussten wirklich jedes Teil, das wir benutzen erst mal spülen, der Dunstabzug war fettig und der Ofen braucht auch mal dringend eine Grundreinigung. Aber das lässt sich ja vom Vermieter, mit dem wir übrigens einen sehr guten Kontakt hatten, sicherlich verbessern.
Ein Satz noch zur Zufahrt. Nachdem man von einem kleinen Ort in der Nähe von Gaiole erst mal ca. 33 Kurven hinter sich gebracht hat sind die letzten ca. 3 km Waldpiste. Diese ist in jedem Fall nicht für Fahrzeuge geeignet die tiefer gelegt sind und auch von anderen nur mit Vorsicht zu befahren.
Das Haus ist wunderbar geeignet für Leute, die Ruhe und Erholung suchen, wer täglich Sehenswürdigkeiten besichtigen will sollte sich vielleicht etwas weniger abgelegenes suchen.
Das Haus hätte von mir in jedem Fall 5 Sterne bekommen, wenn die Küche sauber gewesen wäre.
