A beautifully restored hillside farmhouse with lovely landscaped gardens & truly spectacular uninterrupted views in 25 acres of peaceful olive groves, farmland & woodland, in the the Val d'Orcia Park, now an UNESCO world heritage site. The spacious house is finished to a high standard with handmade terra cotta paved floors and outside paving, colour washed walls, antique furniture and well equipped kitchen & bathrooms. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan. The glorious views from the large terrace shaded by two oak trees provide a magical setting for meals outside at a handmade wrought iron table which seats 12 people. The 12 x 6 metre pool situated in a formal hedged rose garden has plenty of paved space for sunbathing on teak loungers and sunbeds under large sunshades. The house and pool are beautifully looked after by our housekeeper who can provide excellent cooking on request. The gardens are cared for by our gardener. Cleaning and a high level of service is included.

Our house is on a south facing hillside in the southern part of the outstandingly beautiful Val D'Orcia park. Spectacular views extend over miles of typical Tuscan hills and valleys, including Monte Amiata, Monte Cetona and ancient hilltop towns and villages such as Celle sul Rigo (7 km) and San Casciano dei Bagni (10 km, thermal baths, tennis and riding). Radicofani (5 kms) with its dramatically situated ancient fortress, has shops, restaurants and bars. The house is within easy car distance of Siena (83km 75 mins), Florence (140km), Rome (180km), Perugia (110km), Cetona (24km), Monte Amiata (walking, winter skiing 30km), Pienza (32km 25min), Montepulciano (31km 30 min), Montalcino (50km), Castiglione del Lago (50 km, lake, water sports, golf), and Orvieto (55km), . Chiusi (25-30 mins drive), on the main rail line with fast trains to Florence (1 hr) and Rome (1.5 hrs), is an access point for the A1 autostrada from Rome to Florence. Large supermarkets are in Sarteano(17.5km) and Chiusi

Additional information about rental rates

  • Rental charges cover the supply of water, electricity, gas for cooking and hot water. At least 3 hours pool and house cleaning on 6 days per week and final cleaning is included. High quality bed and bath linen is provided and changed weekly. Pool towels are also provided. Most basic household items such as washing powder, loo paper, kitchen towel etc are supplied. The costs of telephone calls, central heating and firewood are not included in the charges and must be paid for separately. A refundable security deposit of £600 is required at the time of final payment. This will be returned within 3 weeks of the end of the holiday minus any deductions for damage or extra cleaning should this be necessary. The pool is open from the last week of May, weather permitting, until the end of September inclusive. Changeover days are usually Saturdays but this is negotiable. We accept sterling cheques, most credit cards and bank drafts or transfers in sterling.

The bed linen and proper comfortable down pillows are of high quality. There is a hairdryer in each bedroom.

We are a family of four and we stayed here for 2 weeks in August 2009 - it was a wonderful holiday and one we will never forget. The house stands in the most beautiful countryside and the views from the all of the windows, pool and terrace are incredible. The recommendations for restaurants, places to visit etc are so good that it is impossible to go wrong and every effort has been made to ensure a relaxing and comfortable stay. The housekeeper is wonderful - the house is spotless and she is a fantastic cook! We would definitely like to return one day.

Our favourite place in Italy

This is a truly lovely house. We have just booked our fifth holiday there (in two years). The views from the house are superb and the location is very tranquil. The house is furnished in very good taste and beds, sofas etc are very comfortable. The kitchen is very well, and thoughtfully, equipped. The pool is to 5 star hotel standards with very comfortable loungers and huge umbrellas. The gardens are lovely too, and the housekeeper (who comes nearly every day) ensures that the whole place is kept spotless. There is a charming village about 10 minutes away with several simple, but excellent, restaurants. San Casciano, about 20 minutes away, is a gem and there are many beautiful and interesting places to visit within 30 to 45 minutes away. We have holidayed in Italy for years, both in hotels and houses and Pian di Goro is definitely the best place we have found.

We had a terrific time at your home in Tuscany. We will remember how beautiful things were: the house, grounds, garden, pool. Also, & surprise to us, we really enjoyed the location. The views were wonderful, & the daily trips into nearby towns made the week especially memorable. We visited Orvieto, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza. Saw sights & did food shopping. Your detailed info on the region was very helpful as we planned our days. Kim, our 'resident cook' enjoyed using your 'River Cafe' cookbooks. In fact, he just ordered the cookbooks from Amazon.com. Rachele [property's housekeeper] is magnificent. In short, and in closing, our only complaint is that we were only able to stay a week (2004).
A place like this exists nowhere else on earth. The expansive vistas, charming hill towns and lovely 'home away from home' will remain forever etched in my memory. Rachele is a real find -helpful, cheerful & an excellent cook! What a vacation! (2003).
