Paradise in the Chianti

The stone farm house of Patrignone was our home base in Tuscany. We stayed in the Terrazo, which was more than ample for our family of four, including two teenage boys. Our bed was very comfortable and we liked the wooden beams on the ceiling and the irregular characteristics that one would expect in an old building. We appreciated being greeted with a loaf of home made bread, some prosciutto, salami and cheese in the fridge, as well as ground Illy coffee. We made our own coffee in the morning and looked forward to returning to this lush setting every night, rushing to get our refreshing dip in the pool. We had a self catered apartment and one night even made dinner there, which was great. It was nice to be both on our own, yet be able to ask for dinner suggestions, have someone willing and able to make dinner reservations on our behalf. Verity made dinner the first night, which was delicious and they also directed us to a cooking class at the nearby Toscana Mia, which is a memorably experience. Simon and Verity (as well as their lovable dogs) are wonderful hosts, but they have a life and an olive oil business to run as well, so never hover. We liked this because it made us feel more independent. Our only problem was with nasty mosquitoes at night. Definitely bring bug spray. A ceiling fan would be a great addition. One thing that you can not see in the website or in a picture is the smell. They've planted lots of rosemary, so when the breeze blows that's what you smell! Cooking dinner? Just pluck a few twigs. We'd go back in a heartbeat.
