Photos and Description of this Castellina in Chianti holiday villa
Lovingly restored villa in quiet, rural setting with pool and stunning views

Podere Patrignone is a beautiful old 15th Century estate ('podere') which has been lovingly and tastefully restored. Patrignone is set on top of it's own hill reached by a long, winding private road that ends at Patrignone. It is set in 150 acres of forest, olives and vines, with uninterrupted 360 degree views over the Tuscan valley. It's the perfect setting for peaceful walks, sunbathing, cycling and exploring. It has a lovely pool with one of the best vistas in Tuscany. Wake up to the mists rising through the trees and the beautiful views of surrounding vineyards, or catch an amazing sunset over the towers of San Gimignano and the snow-capped Apennines on the horizon. It is divided into 5 self-contained apartments and the Villa, all beautifully furnished in a traditional style. Villa Patrignone can be rented as a whole (7 en-suite doubles) or you may rent individual rooms on a B&B basis. The Villa and four apartments are listed here. Please Google 'Patrignone' or see the Link below.

Patrignone is right in the middle of Chianti, at the epicentre of Tuscany's cultural treasures, just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its restaurants, cafés and shops (and a good supermarket). Siena is just 35 minutes away, and Florence 40 minutes in the other direction, San Gimignano is 30 mins away, with Volterra the next town along. You really couldn't pick a more central location. There's no doubt that you'll need a car to get the most of Chianti's nooks and crannies, but if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 1.5-hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines clearly visible from Patrignone's terracotta terrace. And if you're into cycling, walking, nature-watching, or ballooning, these activities and more can be easily organised. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.

Notes: Food at Patrignone We are happy to cater for you and your party. We have been cooking for our guests for nearly 20 years, and we’d like to think that we know a thing or two about Tuscan food. We have a fabulous kitchen and a lovely sunken dining room (capacity 34) with a fantastic terracotta-arched ceiling. We serve a wide variety of typical Tuscan (and other Italian) home-cooked food, sometimes with a slight modern twist. We sometimes serve part or all of your meal out on the Terracotta Terrace, depending on the time of year. Meals need to be booked in advance and paid for locally. A typical 4-course meal (with wine) costs €40 per head. Other services: Laundry and cleaning services are available for an extra charge. We have a no smoking policy in all our apartments. If you would like more details on this or anything else, follow the link to our website, or please email us, or Google 'Podere Patrignone' for our website.

Further details for this holiday villa rental in Castellina in Chianti, Italy

The Terracotta Terrace, pool & Koi pond: There is a large terracotta terrace with breathtaking sunset views across the valley towards the sparkling towers of San Gimignano the snowy peaks of Abetone. Guests often have their sunset drinks here, or take their evening meals here under the stars. The natural stone-tiled pool area is a tactful 50 metres from the house, and offers amazing sunset vistas, as well as the opportunity to watch the cheeky swallows having an evening dip in the pool. There are plenty of deck-chairs and sun-loungers, as well as umbrellas, the natural shade produced by trees surrounding the pool, and a shower. NB There is no pool supervision, so NO children under the age of 14 may use the pool unsupervised. The Koi pond is a peaceful landscaped area made up of a stone built circular pond, with a seating area. It is very quiet and is shaded by large trees. It is NOT a safe area for young children to roam unsupervised.

Dinner at Patrignone, more rental opportunities: A four-course evening meal can be prepared and served, either in the Frantoio Dining Room or out on the Terracotta Terrace, weather permitting, for 40€/head including wine. Please make your requirements known at least 7 days prior to arrival, though ad-hoc arrangements can be made later, and we will always try to accommodate your wishes, if we can. As well as the accommodation listed here we have two other apartments. Forno is a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment with its own outdoor area, kitchen-diner-living space, and bathroom. It is not huge, but we think it's one of the prettiest apartments at Patrignone and is a favourite with family and friends. And Le Stalle is a lovely ground-floor 2-bedroom apartment with a lovely kitchen diner and a small outdoor covered patio for al fresco meals.

Please check our website for details [see Link below].

A family concern, and a note about kids: Three generations of the same family own and run Patrignone. It is owned by Carla Govoni. She bought the property some 20 years ago, and has been painstakingly restoring it ever since - a never-ending task. Her son Simon (me), my girlfriend Verity, and our two kids Harvey and Sam now live at Patrignone and manage the concern personally. Kids: you and your children are totally welcome. We have children of our own, and Patrignone is a great place for kids to explore. But be aware that many people come to Patrignone for a bit of peace and quiet, so please keep your children supervised and in-check at all times. If you want space where they can run wild, please ask - we have plenty of room for them where they can 'go native', build dens, stalk wild-life etc. This is especially important around water. There must be no unsupervised children anywhere near the swimming pool or the carp pool . . . . . and if you'd like more info, please feel free to Google 'Patrignone' or see the Link below.

Other Activities:

cooking, wine tasting, bird watching

Paradise in the Chianti

Review Submitted: September 13, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
The stone farm house of Patrignone was our home base in Tuscany. We stayed in the Terrazo, which was more than ample for our family of four, including two teenage boys. Our bed was very comfortable and we liked the wooden beams on the ceiling and the irregular characteristics that one would expect in an old building. We appreciated being greeted with a loaf of home made bread, some prosciutto, salami and cheese in the fridge, as well as ground Illy coffee. We made our own coffee in the morning and looked forward to returning to this lush setting every night, rushing to get our refreshing dip in the pool. We had a self catered apartment and one night even made dinner there, which was great. It was nice to be both on our own, yet be able to ask for dinner suggestions, have someone willing and able to make dinner reservations on our behalf. Verity made dinner the first night, which was delicious and they also directed us to a cooking class at the nearby Toscana Mia, which is a memorably experience. Simon and Verity (as well as their lovable dogs) are wonderful hosts, but they have a life and an olive oil business to run as well, so never hover. We liked this because it made us feel more independent. Our only problem was with nasty mosquitoes at night. Definitely bring bug spray. A ceiling fan would be a great addition. One thing that you can not see in the website or in a picture is the smell. They've planted lots of rosemary, so when the breeze blows that's what you smell! Cooking dinner? Just pluck a few twigs. We'd go back in a heartbeat.

Imitable and authentic Tuscany

Review Submitted: February 11, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2007
Hidden away in the Tuscan hills nestled somewhere between San Gimignano and Sienna amongst rolling vineyards and views to drink in, is Podere Patrignone.

Travelling in the heart of Winter, as a through traveller on to other bits of Europe, I have to say i was not only seduced by the accommodation and location all things Tuscan, I was bowled over by the warmth of my hosts. I had heard about Patrignone and Simon and V through friends in the UK and took up the suggestion of visiting. It was worth it to be in receipt of some fantastic authentic Tuscan dishes alone - one of which - a heart warming bean and sage pasta affair that i have been striving to emulate ever since!

What also was a winner for me is how Patrignone was a great place to sit and stop, relax and be quiet away fro the hustle and bustle - peaceful and alluring even in the chills of Winter, I imagine the joys of summer to only enhance it.

This is authentic Tuscany away from the guide books and in to a place i can only but recommend. I will be back Simon and V thanks again!
