Charming country house in idyllic setting with lovely gardens and pool
A charming 250 year old villa-farmhouse 40 minutes south of Siena, which has been beautifully restored by the Anglo-Irish artist/owner. It stands at the head of a secluded valley of cornfields and Mediterranean pines and poplar woods, 1.2 kms from the medieval village of San Giovanni d'Asso, with fine views of the castle and the surrounding undulating 'Crete' hills, a uniquely beautiful landscape. Nearby are historical Abbeys with their celebrated frescoes: Monte Oliveto Maggiore and Sant'Anna in Camprena. The house, furnished with antique country furniture, art and exotic textiles, is of warm Sienese stone and brick, encircled by wide terracotta terraces, ancient mulberry trees and huge old cypresses, olive groves, lawns and gardens of fragrant herbs, the cook's delight. The pergola for eating out is covered by jasmine and roses, the 12mt pool is ozone treated, virtually chemical free, luxuriantly immersed in decorative shrubs and lavender.
