Borgo di Bucciano and San Miniato: The setting is superb within beautiful countryside with views of soft hills near vineyards, fields of sunflowers, olive groves and farmers working in their fields. BUCCIANO offers a very good base as it is central for touring all Tuscany, good communications for reaching a variety of holiday destinations and convenient for days out and Tuscan adventures! Several interesting villages nearby - Peccioli, bar/pasticceria/enoteca, Montaione with a superb alimentari, small bar and newsagent - and restaurants. 7km from SAN MINIATO - a small gem, for the castle remains and fine views and its medieval treasures. There is usually a market in town every Tuesday, nearby San Miniato Basso has a Thursday market and station to Florence. San Miniato was founded by the Etruscans, the most powerful civilisation in pre-Roman Italy, who gave Tuscany its name. On his way home from Pisa, St Francis of Assisi travelled to the top of the San Miniato hill and founded the historic Convent in 1211.

San Miniato contd, Lucca and the Coast: More... It was a town full of intrigue, battles, politics and power - variously ruled by France, Florence and even Spain. Now there is a slower pace of life. As much of Tuscany, still predominantly rural with fertile soil and a temperate climate. Napoleonic connections. Visit Lucca for sightseeing & elegant shopping within a preserved 16th century fortress city - only 35 minutes away. One of the most beautiful and elegant cities in Tuscany, Lucca has exquisite shops and restaurants, a weekly market & a special monthly antiques market. Hire good bicycles to ride around its famous walls, from where the historic old town can be seen inside, with Art Deco buildings and newer town outside. Lucca is mainly for pedestrians. Most visitors return . . . . SAN GIMIGNANO is a must! The famous coastal resorts of VIAREGGIO and the more select FORTE DEI MARMI, are just to the west of Lucca, on the COAST - beach, sunbathing and pleasant walking. Viareggio has a famous carnival in February

Florence, Siena, and the Coast: and more... THE COAST - Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi 45 minutes. FLORENCE - 40 minutes - Visit the main piazza with its Duomo and Baptistry; the galleries, shops and markets. Cross the Ponte Vecchio and walk along the Arno. Visit nearby FIESOLE - it's cooler in the heat of the summer. Visit SIENA - for its semi-circular piazza with a tall tower overlooking the Palio horse racing - 60 minutes. The drive itself is interesting. All TUSCANY can be visited from SAN MINIATO - trains to Florence 25 minutes! With an early start, UMBRIA can be visited - it is interesting to compare the two. CERTALDO and Leonardo's birthplace of VINCI is 20 minutes away and the nearby museum has scale models of his inventions. Very interesting! The area around San Miniato is lovely and Casa Lucia is an excellent base - Beautiful in Spring; Glorious in summer; Bright and warm days in autumn; Cozy in Winter. Just come... GOLF - There are many excellent golf courses in Tuscany. Cont

Ski: GUEST BOOK CONTD. Just wanted to write and tell you what a lovely time we had in Tuscany. The house was perfect & so well equipped - thank you so much for all the extra little touches. It is certainly the best equipped house I have ever stayed in! The house itself was great - particularly having the secure garden and plenty of room around. We also had a lovely time at the pool which is beautiful. We tended to laze around in the mornings and went to Lucca, San Gimignano, Volterra, Monteriggioni in the afternoons. We especially loved Siena and went there 2x. Best wishes and thanks for everything (Family children of 2 and 3, stayed Sept). We had a great holiday & thoroughly enjoyed our time at Casa Lucia. It is in a lovely position and we explored the surrounding countryside and villages, found back roads to San Miniato much quicker than the main road. We returned from our holiday totally relaxed. Many thanks (2 Couples, October). You really have something special - July 08 3rd hol.

Golf: We have details on numerous golf courses in Tuscany - please ask for details if you are interested). An easy drive from Casa Lucia are small local villages such as Montaione and Palaia, pleasant to stroll around and with good restaurants and bars to watch the world go by. Our guests report the local restaurants to be excellent and kind to the pocket! GOURMET SPECIAL: The famous San Miniato Truffle Fair usually takes place at the end of November - we have a local contact who can obtain truffles - and all the local restaurants serve them from September onwards - they are wonderful! During this time especially, it is also possible to purchase wine direct from the vineyards. Casa Lucia is only 15 minutes from San Miniato. Come and sample the real Tuscany. In September and October there are wine festivals to celebrate the new vintage - the olive picking starts and often continues into December. The local produce throughout the year is luscious - shopping (from markets, alimentare or supermarkets) actually enjoyable - and cooking no hassle: the ingredients are so good and Casa Lucia has a well equipped kitchen with cooker hood, window and french windows to the interesting garden view. GUEST BOOK 2007 - Thanks once again (these guests stayed last year) for allowing us to use your home and have a great holiday. It was so relaxing and peaceful I really didn't want to come home. We spent a day exploring Chianti country, stopped at San Gimignano for lunch first (couple May 2007).

Other Activities: Lovely drives/walks, local villages, restaurants. Nr tourist sites: San Miniato/Florence/Pisa/Lucca/San Gimignano/Siena/Volterra/Vinci/Two Coasts

Casa Lucia

Hackney London
Review Submitted: October 27, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
My partner and I rented Casa Lucia for the first week in October 2009. We were attracted to this property by its interior decor, the stunning views from the garden and the facilities it offered (swimming pool). It did not disappoint us.
We had a great holiday. The accommodation was beautiful and perfectly located for day trips to the big cities and rural villages.
The week passed too quickly, but we made the most of our time with leisurely swims, day trips to Lucca, Vinci, Florence, San Gimignano, Pisa and local evening walks.

The customer service was exceptional, and we were provided with detailed information on finding the property, local facilities – shops, restaurants and holiday suggestions etc. None of which we could fault.

I would likely recommend Casa to Lucia to others and hope that one day I will return to repeat the experience.
Owner's Response: Our October guests to Casa Lucia (and our other property in Tuscany, Casa Fiore 10317) all enjoyed their holidays with fine sunny weather. Spring and Autumn are lovely times of the year in Tuscany. It's never too soon to book!

a wonderfully located home from home in the tuscan hills, ideal for day trips to florence, pisa and sienna, as well as plenty of other charming places.
absolutely the best views we've ever had from a holiday home and some gorgeous sunsets thrown in, a fabulous place to chill out in the garden with some local food and wine and a very welcoming atmosphere.
just as importantly perhaps; the owners were incredibly helpful in the lead up to our visit, perfect for first time 'tuscaneers' like us!
we very much hope to return soon. thank you!!!

Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
We arrived at Casa Lucia (the first time) in the dark after a long journey. We opened the beautiful wooden doors and stepped into a holiday house with a special atmosphere and I relaxed immediately. The property has been cleverly and stylishly renovated with traditional cotta fllor tiles, beautiful bed linen and practical use of space.
When I opened the doors to the stunning view next morning I couldn't help thinking that the owners were modest in their advertising literature.
The garden is a pleasure and is set out with enough quality garden furniture that you can follow the sun around the building or follow the shade.
The contact with the owners, the welcome and advice provided on arrival and the standard of cleaning and maintenance were of a very high standard. There is a super visitors book where the owners and other guests recommend restaurants which we have enjoyed.
The Borga has been developed in a traditional way to a very high spec and we found the owners of other properties friendly when we chatted to them at the well maintained pool, which also enjoys lovely views.
We have stayed in Casa Lucia twice now and have visited Lucca, San Miniato, San Gimigniano, Vinci, Pisa, up into the hills to Barga and on our last visit we took the train into Florence. We also drove to Venice for an overnight stay and the owners were very helpful in recommending a hotel which was excellent.
There are lots of good walks around the Borgo if you don't mind some steep bits.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone and dream of returning again.
Owner's Response: These guests were quite delightful and will be most welcome to stay again when university expenses completed. They told me their son took a photo of Casa Lucia with him when he first went to university. By the way, we wish the daughter good luck as she commences university this year.

Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This property is lovely, clean and in a beautiful position. We were able to visit all the sights very easily and found the roads and tuscany itself quite empty considering it was end of july/beg of August. The property is at the top of a hill, which we did find daunting and did not want to attempt driving up in the dark so we did not go out in the evening but stayed in the apartment, which was no hardship as it is very well equipped with outstanding views.
The pool was brilliant and we often had it just to ourselves and my daughter loved the 'stray cats' which frequented our garden. Siena was easy to drive to and park at - almost right in the centre - Florence is easy and cheap to get to on the train - Lucca was great and cheap and easy to park as well and we loved Pisa! I think that for us this holiday was a little too quiet but I am pleased we went and feel lucky to have picked such a lovely place to stay. I would have no hesitation recommending this place and the owners were very helpful in the build up to the holiday.
Owner's Response: Thank you. This is an interesting and thoughtful review. We purchased Casa Lucia, as like many Tuscan holiday homes, it is on a small hilltop (4 mins driving to top) so it has superb views on way up and cooling breezes. It's a tarmac road and we find it easy in the dark but prefer to have lunch out and relax at Casa Lucia in the evening - we also do this at our other place Casa Fiore and the 'hill' there takes only 45seconds to the top! I am writing to this guest to suggest Casa Fiore (property 10317) as an alternative for her - some guests prefer one and some the other.

Review Submitted: August 18, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We had our visit to Tuscany in June this year staying in this fabulous hilltop borgo with views to die for. The information given by the owners prior to departure were very comprehensive and so all we had to do was unpack and relax and then explore this beautiful part of the world, There are many charming places to visit from the obvious Florence, Lucca and Pisa to the smaller local villages like Vinci. There are numerous lovely eating places so all needs are catered for. Definitely worth a visit ... or two!
Owner's Response: Thank you for these comments.
These were more welcome guests from Scotland. We are pleased the guests enjoyed their holiday - it's such a beautiful area. There are lots of small local villages well worth exploring - and a relaxing day driving around makes a welcome change to visiting the exciting main tourist sites.
We stayed ourselves in June as it's one of our favourite months.
