Cala Bella is ideally located: on the island: it's an oasis of peace but a transit-able dirt road of 1,3 km., takes in the middle of the island. Few minutes by car from nice villages as Marina di Campo or Procchio and enchanting beaches. For lovers of an unspoiled sea, at 700 m the beach of Fonza, reachable also by car, is kept unspoiled and hidden from tourism. At 300 m, a path and steps along the property, leads down to an enchanting private inlet among the rocks.

General information: how to reach the island: Elba is well connected with the Tuscany coast in Piombino. A ferry takes 50 min to reach Portoferraio, main centre of the island. The timetable depends on the season. In high season, they run almost every hour. Piombino is about 2 hours from Florence, so a daily excursion into the city or in the Tuscan countryside is also possible. Elba is also reachable by plane flying directly to Marina di Campo that is served in summer by airlines out of Germany or to Pisa . From Pisa is easy to take a train or rent a car to Piombino .

History: Elba, one time home-in-exile to Napoleon, has been largely ignored by English-speaking tourists.

Elba has been inhabited as early as the 10th century BC by the Greeks then, through the centuries was conquered by the Etruscans, the Romans, the Normans and the Saracens. In 1802 it was annexed to France and in 1814 Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled here under the Treaty of Fontainebleau and left behind many marks, including two residences which are now open to tourists.
