Giglio is a very beautiful, well known island, : Much appreciated for its natural beauty , the charm of its villages and the warmth of its people. It is also known for its terraces of vineyards producing vino Ansonaco, a golden grape becoming a good strong wine. It has four beautiful sandy beaches to suit every taste. Spring time is a riot of colour and perfume from its wild flowers. Rosemary, sage, laurel and broom grow wild in its hedgerows. Rabbits and birds abound as do fish of every variety. Giglio produces its own honey from the flowers blooming throughout the island. Summer time is very lively with plenty to do on the beach in the daytime, trips around the islands or a taxi boat to a secluded beach. In the evening a goup of Jazz musicians are often are to be found seated outside in the winding streets of the medieval Castello, playing for pure pleasure, to the appreciation of all. The evening walk around the Castello is relaxing and amusing in the cool evening air. You get a taste of real Italian life.

The island boasts many good restaurants and pizzerias to suit every pocket.. The Local Tourist Board organize Concerts, Art Exhibitions, the local theatre production and other activities throughout the summer. There is a big Festival in August to celebrate the feast of San Lorenzo down in the Porto, with fireworks, dancing on the waterfront and different shows- not to mention the Boat Race (Rowing) with different teams from all over the island. In September there is the Big festival of San Mamiliano with donkey races, fireworks, pop stars, rabbit stew and local wine, and the famous Quadriglia dance in the big square with everyone taking part in a big round. This takes place every night at midnight for a whole week!I September there is the Wine Week , when all the local wine cellars are open to the public.You can watch the grapes from around the vineyards of the island being carried in and put into big oak barrels and follow the process of the winemaking, then taste the grapejuice!
