Maremma is the name given to the southernmost area of Tuscany. The rolling hills of this area are famous for their unspoilt natural beauty. Typical local products are Pecorino cheese, olive oil and the local wines Morellino di Scansano and Montecucco. This is a great place to experience a rural way of life that has changed little for hundreds of years. Roccalbegna was built by the Republic of Siena as its southern outpost over 500 years ago and it's changed very little since then. It offers the following services: an exceptional trattoria / pizzeria, a bar, a butchers, a couple of well-stocked general grocers, a bank, a post office and a chemists. There's a mini-market on Monday mornings.
