A comfortable spacious Tuscan farmhouse in the undiscovered Lunigiana
If, like us, you prefer a spacious, quiet and relaxing hideaway set amongst tranquil and unspoilt surroundings then this farmhouse is ideal. The Lunigiana in Northern Tuscany is a very beautiful unexplored part of Italy close to the Cinque Terre, the Ligurian Riviera and the cities of Pisa, Florence, Genova and Parma. With medieval origins, the village of Turlago is a haven of peace and quiet, nestling in the foothills of the Appenines and flanked by the famous 'Carrara' marble mountains. Here there is a timeless serenity where sounds are gentle, no one hurries, and life carries on much as it has done for generations. The farmhouse sits on the southern edge of the village in a large well stocked secluded garden with a large flagstone courtyard. The large terrace faces southwest with all day sun offering wide uninterrupted views over the Rossaro valley to Fivizzano and the Spanish fortress at Aulla. With soaring eagles and stunning sunsets it is a magical place to unwind and relax.

With medieval villages, ancient castles, breathtaking views across fertile river valleys and ancient terraced hillscapes to dramatic mountain vistas this is the Lunigiana, Tuscany's best kept secret. Hidden away from the tourist trail the Lunigiana nevertheless enjoys easy access to the main cultural centres of Northern Italy and the sophisticated coastal villages of the Ligurian coast. Il Portone lies on the southern edge of the peaceful hamlet of Turlago less than ten minutes drive up through the vine and olive groves from the historic Malaspina town of Fivizzano and castle at Veruccola, and is easily reached from the airports at Genoa, Pisa, Parma and Milan with the Autostrade at Aulla (30 min). Close by are the picturesque ports of Lerici, St Terenzo and Portovenere, the famous Cinque Terre and the Ligurian Riviera; the ancient cities of Luni, Sarzanna and Lucca (Pucini's birthplace), the beaches at Forte di Marmi, the 'Cararra' marble mountains and the Garfargnana national park
