An old house with all modern comforts in an ancient mountain village in Tuscany, Italy. Stunning views across the valley from the balcony. Enjoy the private courtyard for sunbathing or eating outside in the summer. There are recently modernised 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry, kitchen and diner/lounge. Try the local authentic Italian food and wine at the restaurant 30 metres away, and a choice of restaurants in surrounding villages and towns. Castles and valleys to explore by horse, foot or car. A swimming pool is available at a hotel in the next village. Easy to reach by car from the airports at Genoa, Pisa, or Parma. It is within 40 minutes by car from the Tuscan beaches, or 'Cinque Terre' picturesque fishing villages, and 1.5 hours from the historic towns of Florence, Pisa, and Lucca. In the winter it is only 30 minutes from local ski resorts at 'Prato Spilla' and Cerrreto.

Cattognano is a medieval village 'borgo', in the Lakes National park in the Tuscan mountains. Good for hillwalking, relaxing, sightseeing ancient castles overlooking the Taverone and Magra valleys in this region of Lunigiana. Restaurants in nearby towns and villages are known for their authentic local Italian fare (including wild mushrooms and chestnuts in the autumn). It is 40 minutes by car to beaches along the Tuscan coast at Massa, Carrera and Viareggio, and to picturesque fishing villages along the 'Cinque Terre' coast of Liguria. It is 40 munutes to the Carrera white marble quarries, & hotsprings at Equi Terme. There is Puccini opera in summer Pisa,Verdi in October Parma for music lovers The historic renaissance cities of Florence, Pisa, Parma and Lucca are 1.5 hours drive away for sight seeing and shopping. There are ferries to Sardinia and Corsica from the nearby port of La Spezia In the winter there is skiing at the resorts of 'Prato Spilla' and Cerreto' 30 minutes away

Notes: Cleaners will come after the rental period and the cost is included. Linen, towels are provided. A welcome pack of food and a bottle of wine will be available. All appliances and facilities are modern. There are plenty of books/novels and games in English. There are CD and DVD players with a stock of English discs.The laundry room has a washing machine, tumble dryer, hand washbasin, iron and ironing board etc. The kitchen has a fan oven, gas hob, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There is a woodburner in the living room which runs the central heating for the cooler months. The courtyard/terrace is enclosed and private with space for sunbathing, outside eating and a small barbecue. The main balcony has outside chairs and stunning views, and there is a small balcony attached to bedroom 2. The mezzanine above the bedroom 3 is private and unavailable.

Ski details: Cattognano is only 30 minutes by car to Prato Spilla, a local Italian ski resort with chair lift upto the pistes, and with instructors and equipment rental available. The house is also about 45 minutes away from Cerreto which is a larger ski resort than Prato Spilla, with a greater variety of pistes and facilities.

Tranquil paradise close to major attractions

The property is located in a small hamlet with stunning views. It has been sympathetically restored, but contains all modern conveniences and is very well maintained. Although it is well off the beaten track, the property is within striking distance of many different attractions, whether it is walking in the beautiful surrounding countryside, opera in the open air at Lucca, the coastline around Lerici or the sights in Genoa, Parma or Pisa - the house is well situated for all. For those people wanting to abandon the car, there is a train service from Aulla approx. 20 mins away. A variety of restaurants can be found in the surrounding villages, but there is also a restaurant a matter of a few yards from the property. I would thoroughly recommend this property and will definitely be making a return visit.
Owner's Response: This property is well placed for those who enjoy outdoor pursuits and wonderful scenery and is modern and comfortable in a old setting.

Peaceful Perfection

We arrived at the end of August - two boys, Mum and Dad and Gramma. We found everything to be better than expected - the house was clean, comfortable and well equipped... simply perfect. The views were breathtaking, the village fascinating, and the people friendly. We particularly enjoyed the trips to Lerici, Pisa, and the Cinque Terre We spent a wonderful afternoon swimming in the river, another exploring the village. Had a delightful last evening meal in Crespiano at Galetti. All in all this was the perfect place for a family to play, relax and rest. I would recommend this property to anyone. After posting my pictures on Picassa, two friend have already enquired about it!
