Photos and Description of this Fivizzano holiday house
Two bedrooms, bathroom, sleeps 4 - Studio, shower room, sleeps 2. Total 6

Having long been lovers of Italy we explored the North, seeking a region that was undiscovered by tourists, yet alive, and truly Italian. In Lunigiana we found the 'Hidden Tuscany', lying between the Apuane Alps and the Apennines, an unspoilt area that has retained the real Italian atmosphere. In Gassano and Rometta we discovered authentic historic Italian villages, vibrant and occupied by Italians of all ages, yet within easy access to modern facilities, motorways, airports, and public transport; around 1/2 hour from the coast and 1 hour from the airports at Genoa and Pisa. Gassano is a perched village, typical of the Maritime Alps, whilst Rometta lays in a valley. Gassano is mainly pedestrianised with narrow twisting lanes on different levels and interlinking arched passages. Casa Fina and Lo Studio are within the ancient borgo and can provide accommodation for 2,4 or 6 guest on weekly terms as low as £80 per person per week. Free car parking is available close to the properties.

Further details for this holiday house rental in Fivizzano, Italy

What to do: Numerous bars, pizzerias and restaurants are to be found in the local villages. Close by is the delightful market town of Fivizzano with a good selection of shops. Cafes and restaurants circle the piazza with its elegant fountain, creating a relaxing atmosphere in which to sit and enjoy an early evening drink. Wandering its small lanes brings you to the church where beautiful 16th century frescoes were recently discovered during renovation work. Between 10 and 15 minutes drive, is Aulla a regional centre with major supermarkets and much larger selection of shops, stores, garages, banks and the hospital. The town is a centre of new investment and is located on the main La Spezia - Parma motorway and is also a main railway junction, both with connections to the stunning Cinque Terre coast, a World Heritage site and of course Pisa, Lucca and Florence .

Local activities range from skiing in the winter, the nearest slopes are about ten miles away, walking and mountain bike riding, all manner of water sports at Lerici and swimming in July and August at the local open air pools. A thermal hot spring is to be found at Equiterme, also with open air pool and spectacular caves. Tennis, golf and horse riding are all available in the local area. Alternatively just spend the day exploring a new village or hamlet, especially on market day, trying the local bars and restaurants and watching the Italian world move by. A train ride from Gassano along the spectacular valley to he lovely town of Lucca, is well worth the trip.

A true tuscan experience

Review Submitted: April 14, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
I just wanted to thank you for recommending that we rent the Gassano Villa. We LOVED it. The village was amazing and the people we met there so friendly that it became the highlight of what was a long and varied trip around Europe.

Thanks again for a wonderful place to stay. My sister from the US is keen to return again as well so I have forwarded your details to her, she was part of our sisterly reunion during this visit

Simply spectacular!

Review Submitted: August 6, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
Casa Fina is very comfortable and the view from the terrace makes you forget everything! Simply spectacular. Definitely recommended. The area is wonderful for cycling and walking.

Gassano is a cute typical Italian village where time stood still. Very kind people, quiet village with ancient traditions.

Review Submitted: January 28, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2010
We had such a lovely week in your apartment and loved every minute of it. unfortunately, we didn't get around to the wine tasting, but that just gives us the perfect excuse to comeback!
Thank you so much.

Nice stay in Tuscany

Review Submitted: August 27, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We stayed in Casa Fina one weak in July. The old mideval village is cosy and have one small shop and a bakery. You have a wonderful view from the terasse. The property is clean and funktional for four persons.Within comfortable drivingdistance you have the coast(aprx.one hour) La Specia and the nice old town Lucca with magnificent old churches. If you like narrow roads and small villages in the mountains this is a good place to stay.
(Good for bikers though we didn´t bring any)
Don´t forget earpropps the Church is rather close and the bell sounds every 30min. But you get used to it after a few nights, we did.

A peaceful retreat in Tuscany

Review Submitted: August 26, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
This is a well maintained property in a medieval village with stupendous views from the balcony overlooking the mountains - you can spend hours in peaceful meditation looking at the views. Everything in the property was clean and in good working order and we encoutered no problems. There are few tourists in the neighbourhood so some effort is required to suss out the places that you think are worth visiting. The locals are very friendly and helpful and a visit to the village pub is strongly recommended - helps if you speak some Italian! - but they sell excellent local wine. The shop keepers were also obliging and helpful. The owners guide to reaching the village and apartment was comprehensive and accurate as well as an outline of the restaurants and some tourist attractions. Getting out of Pisa airport is a little harder. A visit to Lucca (going over the mountains) is well worthwhile as is visiting the marble quarries at Carrara. Would strongly recommend this property and location - real Tuscany!
