Our best decision this holiday

We stayed at ‘Il Torrente’ in June 2011. We would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, but well situated retreat in Tuscany.
Jay and Donna gave us a very warm welcome, they are lovely people, work hard, and are passionate about their business. They are everything you hope for when you arrive somewhere new.
The first thing you notice is the attention to detail in the accommodation, after previous lodgings in Italy we felt we had finally struck gold. The building materials are top class and the general decor is tasteful and eclectic; this is no Ikea filled box without a personality (The online pictures do not do it justice). The kitchen is smart, modern and very well equipped, lovely shower and bathroom too. The TV is no flatscreen wonder, but we didn’t go to Tuscany to watch TV!
Private outdoor space is compact, but this is a retreat not a resort. The pool area is kept very clean and the pool itself appears to be filtered freshwater, a great change from mouthfuls of chlorine. The general surroundings of the forest and stream alongside give a great feeling of seclusion and relaxation.
Florence, Pisa & Lucca are all within easy reach for daytrips, the closest of major towns Montecatini - useful for those looking for a train, feels a bit of a cheap tourist trap. For those not willing to dally in Italy’s fine deli shops there is a COOP supermarket a few minutes drive away in Buggiano, with a great choice of food and essentials.
We arrived by car, the drive is initially daunting down the steep hill, but presents no real problems as long as you take it easy. Parking behind automatic gates (you have the key) mean you feel secure even in this remote location.
‘Il Torrente’ was by far the best of our 4 stops in Italy this summer. It gives great value for money and made us feel relaxed and cared for; highly recommended.
