Set in the hills overlooking a beautiful Umbrian Valley, with uninterrupted views as far as Assisi, Casa San Gabriel is a collection of 4 farmhouses dating back to the 16th Century. Lovingly restored by the present owners, the houses feature original beams, terracotta tiles and the latest technology giving ultimate comfort. It's position set among 3 acres of its own land and surrounded by olive groves and wooded hillsides, gives guests the utmost peace and tranquillity to relax and unwind and the opportunity to walk in the beautiful Umbrian countryside. There is accommodation for 10 in 3 totally independent cottages (2,4,4), all with private terraces, fully equipped kitchen, sitting / dinning room, central heating and bathroom with shower. The main house offers a communal room with internet access, well stocked library including books, guidebooks and dvds. Guests can enjoy the 14.5m * 4.5m in-ground pool, a wood-burning pizza oven and herb garden.

La Cantina is suitable for a couple or a small family. The lower level consists of a fully equipped kitchen and sitting/dinning area with a double sofa bed (orthapedic) and leads onto a private terrace. Glass enclosed, original external stairs take you to the top level, with a landing that leads onto a double bedroom and a separate bathroom with shower. The cottage has recently been restored using all original and local materials, including chestnut beams and terracotta tiles, and furnished to the highest standard. The terrace and bedroom have wonderful views down into the valley and provide you with the opportunity to finish the evening with a glass of wine and the beauty of Umbria in sight.

  • Prices are inclusive of IVA and utilities.

    An additional security deposit of €150 is required on check in, which is fully refundable on final inspection of the cottage.

    Prices include all linen, towels and final cleaning and an additional cleaning service is available at €10 per hour.

    An additional charge will be made for heating and the rates will be advised when a booking enquiry is made.

    You may enter the property from 4.00pm on the arrival date and are required to vacate the property by 10.00am on the departure date. In the event you arrive before this time, or you would like to store your belongings after you have vacated, you may store your belongings in the common area of Casa San Gabriel and are welcome to use the common area facilities.

Swimming Pool: The 14.5m x 4.5m swimming pool is situated on a terrace, with sun beds and umbrellas, at the top of the property with magnificent views across the valley. The south facing aspect ensures the area takes advantage of the sun throughout the day and its elevated position often brings a cooling breeze for a welcome relief to the heat of the summer. It is the perfect place to enjoy a cool glass of 'Vino Bianco' and watch the evening sun set across the mountains. The whole area has been fenced to provide security for children but in such a way that this does not affect the stunning views from the swimming pool.

Playground: A playground is available for use by guests which includes a swing, slide, sand pit and play house with many toys.

Golf: Antognolla Golf Course is located 5 minutes drive from Casa San Gabriel. The Golf course features a demanding 18 hole Championship course, a club house and bar. The background of Antognolla Castle makes this course unrivalled in terms of setting and quality. Green fees: €50 Euros 18 holes. €30 9 holes with packages for 3, 5 and 7 day passes available. Rental facilities available including club, trolley and golf cart hire.

Holiday stay

We stayed at this beautiful cottage for a week. The views are stunning, it is comfortable, clean and cosy and well maintained. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners.
We had hired a car which you need to explore the region and there was plenty to do. We cannot wait to go back.
The whole week was very relaxing. Thank you.

Heaven on earth

We have been 3 times and stayed at a different cottage each time as our family has expanded. Fabulous views down the valley to Assisi in the distance. David is a master with the pizza oven and tips on the local wine. Chrissie is a great host and brilliant at suggesting local restaurants. A wonderful place to come and relax after my wife has shown me the wonderful art in nearby Spello, Gubbio and Perugia.

Extremely knowledgeable, helpful owners. Wonderful valley with walks from the door. Easy access to all areas of interest. Beautiful gardens and pool in perfect position. Excellent space for children. Individual charm to all properties and very peaceful.

Casa San Gabriel, a little gem

I have stayed with my girlfriend 3 times at Casa San Gabriel and cannot fault it. Exactly as described on the website, the cottages are clean and characterful and secluded, yet near to the pool, which has the most delightful views towards Assisi. The English and Aussie owners and their delightful young children couldn't be more helpful whilst always respecting guests need for privacy. There are so many breathtaking places to visit within an hour or so of the Casa that we will continue to return annually. The restaurants recommended by the owners are all good, and the nearby town of Umbertide has loads of character without being too touristy.Our favourite eateries were the Michelin Red Book recommended Agri-tourisme one in the Niccone Valley about 25 minutes away, the old manor house owned and run by a charming and elegant Contesse about 20 minutes away, a super pizzeria in the old part of Umbertide, two first class restaurants in the old Medieval settlement of Montone about 25 minutes away This place is a little gem and my only fear is that it will get too booked up! The golf course 10 minutes drive away, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, is also a gem. It includes a most imposing Castle that perches above many of the golf holes and green fee/buggy hire charges are reasonable. Make sure you eat the owners pizzas if you have the chance, as it is good to socialise at least once with the guests of the other two charming cottages. Well stocked for those that like to do their own cooking and the owners are very happy to do a pre-arrival shop for guests so that a cool beer or glass of bubbly can wash down the effects of your journey when you first arrive.The city of Perugia, and medieval towns of Cortona, Gubbio, Assisi, Anghiari are all worthy of a days visit, and reachable in less than an hour.
