Set in the hills overlooking a beautiful Umbrian Valley, with uninterrupted views as far as Assisi, Casa San Gabriel is a collection of 4 farmhouses dating back to the 16th Century. Lovingly restored by the present owners, the houses feature original beams, terracotta tiles and the latest technology giving ultimate comfort. It's position set among 3 acres of its own land and surrounded by olive groves and wooded hillsides, gives guests the utmost peace and tranquillity to relax and unwind and the opportunity to walk in the beautiful Umbrian countryside. There is accommodation for 10 in 3 totally independent cottages (2,4,4), all with private terraces, fully equipped kitchen, sitting / dinning room, central heating and bathroom with shower. The main house offers a communal room with internet access, well stocked library including books, guidebooks and dvds. Guests can enjoy the 14.5m * 4.5m in-ground pool, a wood-burning pizza oven and herb garden.

Il Fienile is perfect for families with the lower level consisting of a twin bunk bed room, with independent shower and bath room, living/dinning area with double sofa bed, fully equiped kitchen and above is a mezzanine level double bedroom with either twin or a double bed. The cottage has recently been restored using all original and local materials, including chestnut beams and terracotta tiles, and furnished to the highest standard. The main room leads onto a secluded terrace ensuring privacy but benefiting from beautiful views of the valley.

  • Prices are inclusive of IVA and utilities.

    An additional security deposit of €150 is required on check in, which is fully refundable on final inspection of the cottage.

    Prices include all linen, towels and final cleaning and an additional cleaning service is available at €10 per hour.

    An additional charge will be made for heating and the rates will be advised when a booking enquiry is made.

    You may enter the property from 4.00pm on the arrival date and are required to vacate the property by 10.00am on the departure date. In the event you arrive before this time, or you would like to store your belongings after you have vacated, you may store your belongings in the common area of Casa San Gabriel and are welcome to use the common area facilities.

Swimming Pool: The 14.5m x 4.5m swimming pool is situated on a terrace, with sun beds and umbrellas, at the top of the property with magnificent views across the valley. The south facing aspect ensures the area takes advantage of the sun throughout the day and its elevated position often brings a cooling breeze for a welcome relief to the heat of the summer. It is the perfect place to enjoy a cool glass of 'Vino Bianco' and watch the evening sun set across the mountains. The whole area has been fenced to provide security for children but in such a way that this does not affect the stunning views from the swimming pool.

Playground: A playground is available for use by guests which includes a swing, slide, sand pit and play house with many toys.

Golf: Antognolla Golf Course is located 5 minutes drive from Casa San Gabriel. The Golf course features a demanding 18 hole Championship course, a club house and bar. The background of Antognolla Castle makes this course unrivalled in terms of setting and quality. Green fees: €50 Euros 18 holes. €30 9 holes with packages for 3, 5 and 7 day passes available. Rental facilities available including club, trolley and golf cart hire.

Peace near Perugia

Tucked away in the mountains, with stunning views across to Assisi, this is a truly glorious place to relax and unwind. There's so much to see and do, even out of season.

The cottages are all individual, well appointed and comfortable: simply but tastefully decorated with an enormous bible of information about the area, seasonal fiesta’s and walks around the local countryside. The pool is a beautifully quiet place to swim and sunbathe, either with a book, or simply relax with your own thoughts and admire the majestic scenery. There is a fantastic golf course near by if swimming isn't your thing. In the early morning you can sit on your private terrace, in this haven of peace, against the backdrop of mountains and wooded Umbrian countryside and watch the mist clear, as the first shafts of sunlight burn through the cloud.

Chrissie and David who own this little estate (and live in the farmhouse in the grounds) are so welcoming and hospitable. They maintain the pool, grounds and properties to the highest standard. Nothing is too much trouble be it offering advice on where to eat (and booking a table for you if your linguistic skills are poor!) to putting you in touch with a friendly mechanic or English speaking doctor, should you need one. In the summer they also invite you during your stay to share a Pizza as the sun goes down with them and fellow guests, which are made to your own specification, in their stone pizza oven, an original feature of their ancient stone Farmhouse. There is also a BBQ at your disposal which David will help you organise should you so wish.

You will need a car to take advantage of the abundance of things to see and do. The drive up the winding mountain roads can be a little precarious even by Formula One standards. This is still a very unspoilt rural part of Italy so do take a phrase book if you don't speak much Italian. Your attempts at communication will be well received by all the Italians! This is a truly special place to stay, although possibly a little inaccessible for anyone with a disability. Do take a warm jumper – can be quite chilly in the evenings, even in the summer.

A wonderful return visit to Casa San Gabriel

My family made a return visit to Casa San Gabriel two years after our first holiday there. We took our 2 children with us (aged 2 & 4) and had a wonderful vacation. We enjoyed the amazing views every time we stepped out of the farmhouse and took lots of day trips to Sienna, Assisi and other little Italian villages to sightsee and to introduce Lara and Tom to real pizza!! Chrissie, David and their lovely family looked after us so well and we hope to come back sometime next year.
