“Le Greppe” is an old country house totally renewed. It’s located among the hills of the Alta Valle del Tevere, near the border with Tuscany, with a wide wonderful view over the valley and the medieval village of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, built in the XIV century on the top of the mountain. The villa is inside a reserve where sometimes you can see pheasants, little hawks, hares and roe deer’s. The villa is near to the village of Gioiello, to be able even to walk down to the local shops which have all the basics daily needs. The villa is distributed in two floors, both of them with direct entrance to the garden and the swimming pool; all the furniture is in old country house style, typical of the Umbrian tradition of XIX century; the villa is totally surrounded by a grassy garden with old trees which give shadow and fresh air during the summer. From the panoramic swimming pool, just in front of the veranda, you can enjoy the great view over the Valle del Tevere.

From the top of the hill of Gioiello, Le Greppe overlooks all the Alta Valle del Tevere, with its green fields and trees all around! Just 15 km from Città di Castello, a perfect place to go around in the Centre of Italy: a bus station, a local train station, the dual carriageway E45 to go both north (Cesena, Rimini and from there up to Venice or Bologna…etc.) or south (Perugia 45 km, Orvieto 90 km, Roma 200 km…etc.); from Arezzo, 45 km far, it’s easy to reach Florence (other 60 km) and the beautiful region of Chianti. In Perugia there is also the Airport of Sant’Egidio. The best way to reach and visit the area is a car (rent a car Avis and Hertz in C. di C.) “Le Greppe” is in the same time so near to the green forests to go walking in a full immersion in the nature and also to the main typical medieval village and towns of the region, from the not so known Montone, Monte S. Maria, Citerna, Monterchi, to the most famous Città di Castello, Sansepolcro, Perugia, Arezzo, Siena.

The swimming pool complex: The pool, 12 x 5 mt. and 1,20-2,20 mt. deep, is operative from the 30th of May to the 18th of September. It is surrounded by terraces and walkways in local stone and flowers. The pool attendant comes one time a week.

Eating in the area: Even though the atmosphere of the country side brings to laziness and the veranda just near the pool makes eating 'at home' very enjoyable, there are some wonderful restaurants in the area. The local town of Trestina has several good restaurants and pizzerie, and the nearby village of Calzolaro has two excellent and well-situated restaurants .A little further away, at the mountain top village of Santa Maria Tiberina, a nice and typical restaurant will give you unforgettable memories of Umbrian cuisine; Città di Castello offers then all what you can have ever wanted: superb restaurants for all age and tastes! To eat fish, is a 'must' a trip to Lake Trasimeno, for the joy of the stomach but also for the eyes, due to the wonderful beauties of the lake’s area!

Events, markets and shopping in Città di Castello: Thursdays and Saturdays – Market in Piazza Matteotti and Piazza Gabriotti, the historical centre of the town. Every 3rd Sunday of each month: “Retrò” - Antique market. Every month of the year there are special events, concerts, sport, and local feast in the open air or in typical places, museum and temporary exposition to visit.

A magical relaxing holiday

My family (2 adults, a 20 yr old and a 18 yr old) joined another family of 4 to enjoy 8 superb days at Le Greppe. The weather was hot and sunny and the pool was very popular with everyone. The location is quiet and peaceful yet within 10 minutes of the major road networks so travelling around the area is easy. We had a fantsatic trip to Assisi, caught the train to Florence from Arezzo and spend time enjoying Citta di Castello - a surprisingly impressive small town with a lot of culture to offer.
Stephano is a very friendly owner who was extremely helpful, meeting us on the first day and returning to collect the key at the end. He also responded promptly to questions va text meaage.
The villa is immacuately clean and furnished in a pleasant rustic style. There is lots of cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, pans, etc. The villa has 2 kitchens, 2 living rooms and accomodation spread over 2 floors so would also be ideal for 2 families who wanted to be together yet retaining separate accomodation. Only one word of warning - the twin room contains 2 small bunk beds - ideally suited for younger children not teenagers.
I have no hesitation recommending this villa and hope to return one day.

The very beautiful, peaceful Le Greppe

What a fantastic retreat. We stayed with our children for two weeks. We were blessed with beautiful weather, the pool was a much appreciated extra. The villa is very spacious and very well kept, we all felt very comfortably at home there. Citta De Castello is a very beautiful town to visit. Rome is approximately 2 hours by car (highly recommended though).
A holiday at Le Greppe will not dissapoint. We can't wait to visit again.
