In Bazzano di Spoleto, this immaculately restored Convent with beautiful gardens has been tastefully converted into 2 apartments, each with terraces and discreetly 'hidden' from each other. Unlike nearby 'touristy' places such as Assisi, Todi and Perugia, Bazzano nestles in a totally Italian enclave. The mediaeval city of Spoleto - a favourite haunt of Prince Charles - remains relatively unknown....and its tiny offshoot, Bazzano, is the area HRH is believed to have bought a holiday home, specifically for its beauty and seclusion. The Convent is of significant historical interest, housing a 16C fresco by Lo Spagna, who also has work in the Duomo and the Vatican. On one side of the Convent is a small farm-yard consisting of ducks, geese and roosters. Up the lane is Bazzano’s main and very beautiful church. On the other side of the Convent live an Italian family. So, at any one time, you may hear roosters crowing, Italians chattering and bells ringing. A truly Italian experience!

La Romantica is exquisite. This fairy-tale apartment is below and to the side of La Passionata and its entrance is hidden from view. It has 1 dbl bedr, 1 cosy sitting room, a kitchen/diner with a fully-equipped, stone kitchen and wood-burning stove and a shower-room. The 'wow' factor in this apartment consists of its 2 huge, arched windows. One is in the bedroom and at night one can lie in bed and stare at the vastness of the universe. The other is in the kitchen/dining room. The kitchen window looks onto gardens, mountains and the terrace. The bedroom window looks onto a gently undulating, panoramic landscape towards Assisi. It also has a private terrace that seats 4. Bicycles to share are included in the rental. A lovely 3-4 mile cycle ride along flat, windy roads through the olive groves leads you to the grocers in Eggi, a supermarket or Spoleto. La Romantica is ideal for honeymooners or for those seeking to regain a passion worn down by the pressures of every-day life.

Communal pool is a public pool about 15 mins drive away. Indeed, there are several beautiful, communal pools in the area, including an Olympic sized pool that is about 15 mins door-to-door by car. All have picnic areas, a bar and the usual facilities. You can borrow a mobile phone from us - 100 euros refundable deposit. Ideal for 2-3 adults or, 2 adults and 2 very small children. SKY SAT TV with Eng lang films/docs/news/music etc + DVD, 1 stereo/radio, plenty of videos (child/adult), CDs and a variety of books. I'm sorry I can't allow pets. There are 55 steps leading up to La Romantica. Hairdryer + ironing facilities in each apt but both share the use of the washing machine, in the utility room at the entrance to Convent.

We recently stayed in La Romantica for two wonderful weeks. Stunning views, good local shops and well placed for excursions to Assisi, Orvieto, Montefalco, Norcia and Spoleto.Too many amazing places to eat to list here but the following were outstanding (and range from very cheap to moderately expensive) - L'Alchimista in Montefalco ,ILCastoro in Preci, Villa Marianna in Bazzano Superiore,La Bastiglia in Spello and Locanda Roviciano near Castel Ritaldi,
Excellent friendly communication and care from first enquiry to end of holiday. We heartily recommend this apartment and hope to return one day.
Owner's Response: Villa Marianna is one of our large country houses divided into 5 apartments, also advertised on Holiday Rentals. The "eatery" referred to as Villa Marianna is actually a "cucina contadino" ie a peasant's kitchen. We have a private chef, kitchen facilities and inside and outside seating with stunning mountain views all around. We specialise in using ingredients that are local and fresh, including truffles and meat. However, this "cucina contadino" is exclusively for our guests, staying in our villas and apartments in and around central Spoleto and it is not open to the public.
