Luxurious stone-built country houses in beautiful countryside
The property is of pink stone and is set in a large and beautiful garden with two courtyards. It is located in a small village in the foothills of the Appenines and is next to the village church (17th century). Originally there were five farm buildings which have been converted into three houses with all the usual facilities - including central heating, constant hot water etc. The village of Poreta is near Spoleto (about 10k) Spoleto is a beautiful city whith pre-Roman origins and the centre is mostly 16th century.It has good shops and supermarkets and two theatres which are often in use. The annual Spoleto international arts festival is usually held in the last week in June and first week in July. Poreta is quiet and has one bar and shop. There are excellent restaurants in the area and in Spoleto itself. The nearest airports are Rome and Ancona. A car is essential, especially to enable you to enjoy the beautiful hill towns including Assisi, Perugia, Spello and Montefalco

This was the first conversion we did and we lived in it for four years ourselves while the second stage of conversion was under way, so it is very comfortable. The ground floor is living room with dining area and adjoining kitchen. Upstairs are two double bedrooms and shower room. The house is of pink stone like the rest of the property and has terracotta tiles on the ground floor, wood parquet on the upper floor. The kitchen is fully equipped and the house easily accommodates four people in comfort. The property was converted ten years ago and we have had some visitors who have come back each year since then. All sheets and linen are provided and changed weekly. Furniture is mostly English and Italian antique.

We are north-east of Rome (about 2 1/2 hours by car, l 1/2 hours by rail) and 10 km from Spoleto. Assisi and Perugia are nearby. The area is famous for its olive groves, which cover the surrounding hills.
