The few remaining San Mamilianese have retained their traditional way of life as land-owning farmers producing wine, olive-oil, tomatoes and various fruits for local shops and providing the local eateries with fresh truffles. The land around San Mamiliano is “wooded” much of the year and the huge logs are brought down the mountains by packs of mules and delivered to all the neighbouring villages. Olive-pressing and grape picking are also to be evidenced and, all these activities make for extremely picturesque viewing + tasting ! 2 miles above Ferentillo, famous for its rock-climbing and mummy museum, where there are shops, bars and restaurants, San Mamiliano is on a hill, equidistant from the Valnerina and the Flaminia, the 2 main roads on either side of the hill that run the length of Umbria. Therefore, you can easily reach Orvieto, Perugia, Trevi, Montefalco, the Gran Piano, Norcia, Spello, Gubbio……….. and Spoleto, which is 20 minutes away. Rome is 1 hour away by train or car.
