Photos and Description of this Spoleto holiday apartment Four finely restored independent homes, with gardens and walled courtyards

'La Palombaia' is composed of a little house stone built and three independent apartments situated inside a padronal villa dating from 1700; the internal areas are arranged around some splendid walled courtyards and gardens. The restoration work was finished in 2006, respecting the aesthetic quality and spaces of the original building. The homes are finely furnished with Umbrian antique and have every modern comfort, sufficient for a long stay: fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, TV and DVD player, brand new beds and bathrooms; private parking. With its not isolated but secluded and private position in a small country village, 'La Palombaia' is excellent for people who loves quiet, nature and culture and is looking for an authentic experience of hidden Italy. There are a lot of country and mountain paths, the cycle track Spoleto-Assisi is nearby, and you can easily reach all the artistic sites of Umbria, part of Tuscany, Lazio and Rome. We can help you to plan your day-trips.

la palombaia in september

david&melodie antigua
Review Submitted: October 14, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
we have just returned from 12 wonderful days at la palombaia, in poreta.
the photographs and description on the web site do not do justice to this lovely apartment. a tasteful renovation has created 3 apartments in a building, parts of which date back over 300 years.
la palombaia offers plenty of space for 2 couples, and a lovely private courtyard that catches the morning sun. there is access to a garden, with b.b.q.
cinzia is a very welcoming host, and provided a basket with all the essentials to begin our stay. she also provided a supply of tourist literature for the area, the most useful to us was the list of festivals being held in the surrounding villages. we had a memorable day in gualdo todino watching the medieval parade and donkey cart races.
the only shop in the village is part of the complex of buildings. mama keeps a surprisingly wide range of goods, from fresh local fruits and vegetables to good local wines. first stop every morning to get bread, juice and fruit.
carlotta the dog is always wandering around, looking for a pat, sometimes accompanied by the pet goat who is recovering from a nasty hit and run car accident.
cinzia checked in regularly, and responded to any requests we had, including setting up wireless internet for us during our stay.
for walkers, there is a well marked trail, that runs through poreta, following a route from assisi to rome. we enjoyed morning walks along the trail, and in the hills behind poreta. we were a little careful as hunting season was in full swing, and the peace of the morning was constantly interrupted by the sound of shotguns, and packs of dogs.
poreta is an excellent base for exploring the many hill top towns that characterise this part of umbria. our favourites were todi, norcia, montefalco and of course assisi. but make sure you visit castello di campello alto, only a few kilometers from poreta [ within walking distance for the adventurous, following a path through the olive groves].
the local trattoria serves good, honest food, and offers a 10% discount to residents of la palombaia.
we were sad to leave, and for our last breakfast enjoyed a cake that cinzia had baked for us the previous night. it was just another touch, that reminded us that we were not so much renting a villa, but being part of an italian family.

Review Submitted: May 30, 2008 Date of Stay: March 2008

The Tower of the Doves

Twedds London UK
Review Submitted: May 28, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2007
I stayed with friends at this property last year and plan a visit this year too. The Tower is a magical place . It is old and rustic yet comfortable with all mod cons. Situated in the middle of glorious countryside with views across to Spoleto the only sounds are of the animals. To hear your very own Chanticler crowing at dawn is to be transported back to Chaucer's time (or as we are in Italy) Bocaccio's.The Tower is very spacious with a splendid sitting area full of antiques and old master paintings and very comfotable beds in both bedrooms, one of which is in the actual tower. There is a good sitting area outside for brekfast/dinner. Everything is well run by the Pauselli family. Cinzia is in overall control; her mother runs the very comprehensive shop and prepares meals for you if you like made with local produce and very reasonable too. We had 2 dinner parties for friends with everything provided by Rosaria, even th e local wine.We also had a celebratory dinner outside with the family and local residdents and frequent gifts of cappuchinos and Rosaria's latest cake. Cinzia is a mine of information about the area and provides maps and guides at a moment's notice. She makes everything run smoothly. Poreta is alittle village with a castle--a very good restaurant now and a church which wakens you on a Sunday with the oddest peal of bells. It is a very sleepy place with a very old dog invariably aslleep in the middle of the very narrow road. Nearby is the delightful town of Spoleto with a great range of restaurants and cafes and a splendid cathedral with lovely frescoes by Fra Lippi. There are many other interesting places nearby; Montefalco, todi, Spello are just 3 at random we visited. Most of all this is a place to wind down, to sit outside with a bottle of the local wine, read ,chat and enjoy La Dolce Vita. I recommend the Tower for that. It is a good size (it will take 6 comfortably) and has everything to make it a home from home and a lot that you will not find so easily.
